what do you mean i won't say it? wtf are you talking about dude?

i don't listen to trance anymore because there is other music out there that i find more interesting, but that doesn't mean that i then might need to go around postulating that it's 'shit' or whatever - what exactly be the point in that? It's all personal taste jules. Just because I don't like something (or you for that matter) doesn't mean shit. If you don't like trance these days then so what? i certainly don't give a fuck in the end because it's got nothing to do with me, and you'll probably find that no-one else does either. If you don't want to pay $30 to get into an event then here's and idea - don't And if someone else does, then good for them. What exactly is your point Jules?

You're not making any sense mate, how about you try posting before midnight and see how you go?

how will the time of postage change shit?

i dont get home till 9pm so it inhibits my ability to post - so what?

my point is this :- more than any form of music trance has been fucked over the last 10 years. if trance was still good youd still be listening to it - and not have had to find something more interesting.
but trance has been fucked and thats why you did.

Posted by pkcRAISTLIN on Sep-07-2007 15:17:

trance is still good. you just gotta wade through the shit to find the wicked goodness.

maybe trance isnt shit jules. perhaps you just dont like it anymore?

Posted by Tranceilvania on Sep-07-2007 15:37:

Look guys. I think jules has some point. ARMIN WAS CRAPPPPP. If he comes for another event I'll just avoid. Anddd Trance is not what it used to be. Things change but for trance, its all downhill since a while back.
my 2 cents...

Posted by pkcRAISTLIN on Sep-07-2007 15:39:

armin was awesome in june.

Posted by gumble on Sep-07-2007 15:50:

True true,
i'd never believe it if they told me that a few years back.
Currently loving Pendulum's work (boys from Perth) amazing...

nah i love trance more than ever - listen to pig and dan - sly detector
now listen to some old lieb (one of the gawds of trance - lets say hmm lsg - hearts) or some old pvd sets (yes he invented the shit along with cosmic baby.

now listen to sly detector again.

then hearts...

then sly detetctor again

then hearts one more time - just for kicks and cos its a madt tune

holy fark they are the same style....
its trance. but shit, its not this semi-intelligent aerobics music that is proclaimed to be trance, its like real trance

or is it techno?
everyone calls it techno so fuck it so will i. and by doing that - i renders all trance to be shit - because anything good seems to be named anything but trance.

I love being free

yay.

Jules stop making such a goddam fucking fool of yourself. So what? You've spent the last two weeks getting completely fucking wasted and posting bullshit across the internet (ITM also). You look like a fool and it's pretty sad imo - grow up...

Posted by ONION on Sep-07-2007 21:22:

Jules - out of curiosity mangz... Why would there be repercussions, for stating your opinion on a genre you are obviously passionate about?

Posted by pkcRAISTLIN on Sep-08-2007 01:48:

drum and bass has always been and will always be utter shit.

haha, the thing is you've reiterated yourself time and time again, that you are stuck in your comfort zone of eurodance and really know shit all about music. why anyone would listen to you doesn't bear thought.

At least its better than whats presented as trance nowadays.
I repeat Armin White was utter bullshit. I did not admit at first but yeah man it was shit. Should have gone to Hernan Cattaneo's show a day earlier. Bummer...

"comfort zone"? wtf does that mean? you get a degree in psychology wankerisms?

quote:

and really know shit all about music. why anyone would listen to you doesn't bear thought.

because youre such a fucking expert? word to the wise- youre just another punter. you aint a muso, ergo you know fuck all. so we can both know fuck all together

Posted by gumble on Sep-08-2007 09:44:

comfort zone means you stick with one thing; eurodance, and arent willing to venture out.

yes, i am just a "punter". im the guy who turns over his hard earned to go see bands (and djs, although ever so rarely). but i've explored so many types of music, which is something you havent (unless your internet persona is an ignorant representation of your self?)

and when do "musos" necessarily have to know anything about music. there are plenty of "musos" out there who can play an instrument, or write a melody. doesnt mean they have produced something noteworthy (pardon the pun).

film critics don't normally make films, music critics don't normally play or write music. its about the final product, and though someone may have put in many hours into it, its down to me to decide where it sits in terms of achievement (leaving aside bashing away, simply for the pure enjoyment of creating).

anyway, please don't ever class me with you again.

haha. youre a dickhead. that has nothing to do with a comfort zone.

oh, i see. liking lots of different types of music makes you an expert. not easily entertained, not fickle, but a wise and educated superior listener.

yah, but being able to play and/or write means they know more than you do. there's a big fucking difference between an educated listener and an actual musician.

quote:

those that can't do, teach? and to be fair, you can't really classify yourself in the same category until your soapbox is more than auTA

quote:

haha, yeah i agree. but me hating DnB has nothing to do with comfort zones or knowing nothing about music. i was sneaking into pubs to see live bands when you were still learning to masturbate.

Posted by Fpcookie on Sep-08-2007 11:26:

if he says he doesnt like a genre doesnt that mean he has in fact ventured out of his "comfort zone" and listened to other styles?

maybe he just doesnt like them?

Posted by gumble on Sep-08-2007 11:42:

besides a couple of "metal" bands, ive never seen pkc comment constructively or informatively on any other music besides trance.

hence my previous comment on his "internet persona"

i'm not trying to elevate myself to any position. i listen to a lot of music, i love a lot of styles, i hate even more. all i'm trying to point out is that having a very closed (as is perceived across TA) music taste, and a low acceptance of anything that doesn't fit a tried and true method is limiting yourself incredibly. and further to this, doesn't give a huge basis to express an apparently naive opinion.

and having a few years on me doesn't really mean anything; experience isn't rationed out on a per annum basis.

au.ta makes up a very small slice of my "soapbox", i openly criticise music with almost anyone. critism by no means derogatory.

finally, not having learnt an instrument doesn't correlate with a low level of creativity, nor an understanding of what sounds good and what doesn't. people have different tastes, but not everyone's opinion holds the same weight.

to be fair, im pretty sure i havent made any constructive or informative comments about music fullstop

and i thought i was an arrogant cvnt! i dont choose what to like, it chooses me

lols. but your (vocal) distaste for trance, on fucking tranceaddict ffs is somehow different from my distaste for DnB? you're the one with the naive opinion, by (somehow) being able to categorise someone's "musicality" derived from their dislike of a particular genre.

quote:

and having a few years on me doesn't really mean anything; experience isn't rationed out on a per annum basis.

of course it doesn't. im just being the same superior prick as you

quote:

au.ta makes up a very small slice of my "soapbox", i openly criticise music with almost anyone. critism by no means derogatory.

my point was that critics have columns, books, tv shows, magazines, newspapers etc. they are paid to give their opinion on artists or performers. you compared yourself to a critic, which youre not.

quote:

finally, not having learnt an instrument doesn't correlate with a low level of creativity, nor an understanding of what sounds good and what doesn't.

absolutely. but musicians have more of both, assuming they have some talent. you will find musicians are far more capable of judging what sounds good and what doesn't. same as a zoologist would know more about animals than a political scientist

quote:

people have different tastes, but not everyone's opinion holds the same weight.

of course, but judging someone's "musicality" because they only really like one genre of edm is just a bit silly

Posted by mtothejizzy on Sep-08-2007 21:48:

Wow!

What a thread!

It always comes back to the "genre" argument doesn't it?

I've had more than my fare share of that in my career and private life too.

It will never be settled...so put on whatever tune you want, at the time you want to hear it and enjoy.

Ofcourse...this is TRANCEaddict.com...:-)

ode to gumble:

if only i could be like gumble.
he is so knowledgeable and wise.
he knows more about music than anyone on this forum and is not afraid to show it.
he bags out trance on a trance forum and thinks we should listen.
oh how i wish i was gumble.
if only i could be like gumble.
he thinks he knows what others should like.
he listens to all different kinds of music therefore he is not ignorant and is above all the rest.
oh how gumble really is my idol.
please gumble share your wisdom with us we really do pay attention.
if only i could be like gumble.
you spend your hard earned money on seeing live bands to broaden your horizons and tell us this all the time.
this is why youre qualified to tell us why we are wrong.
oh i wish i was more like gumble.
please keep sharing all you have learned i will always listen.
if only i could be like gumble.
