for size and price the creative has higher sound to noise ratio and an EQ. the software is better than it was ever.

iriver was my initial favorite, but you need to deal with korean firmware before the several hundred dollar product becomes useful! cheers!|

So, you've never owned an iRiver?

Calm down then.

It's the easiest fucking thing to use. The iRiver software is so simple to use, that a 10 year old could be considered a experienced user after 5 mins. It's hardly rocket science.

And I'm ALWAYS dubious about Creative (the brand) ANYTHING, so there was zero chance I would bother spending my cash on a brand that has let me down in the past.

Fuck it though They all play music, and my iRiver rocks. I hope to see you in a sports bar in the future

I hope not. I like analog input devices. They'll always be far more accurate.

Maybe at first, but a multiple touch desktop device is inevitable. We are getting away from moving things... including keyboards and mice.

How will one go about making a local call with that thing?

Unless voice-to-text recognition takes leaps, I don't see the (physical) keyboard going anywhere for quite a while.

BEATLES???!!!!

Posted by Domesticated on Sep-05-2007 02:25:

iPods are shit.

They have always been shit.

They will always be shit.

Their software...shit.

Their design...shit.

Their battery life...shit.

Their capacity...shit.

Their price...shit.

Their headphones...complete shit.

See where I'm going with this?

The only thing that isn't complete shit is their marketing, which has evidently done the job...

Posted by Sunsnail on Sep-05-2007 03:13:

The design is ok...

Posted by SuspicionVandit on Sep-05-2007 03:18:

the output on the shuffle was probably the best I've ever heard (before it fell apart in my hands, Three Stooges style) for a portable music player.
I wouldn't buy a hard disk iPod, but I will definitely repurchase a Shuffle as soon as I gather my funds back.

In addition, rumors that Apple will make an announcement regarding the Beatles catalog have circulated for some time and may come to a head tomorrow. The rumors have been partially fueled by content selections in the leaked iPod interface videos and also by the recent addition of John Lennon's solo work to iTunes.

mother fuck YEAH.

2 years.

Hmm, you should be coming up for a battery replacement right about now.

Hope you've got $200 spare.

But surely you have a computer to keep all of your music on, right?

It's not shit but it could definitely use some improvements.

Ahahahahahahaha! They pretty much sell because of the design (and marketing of course). Ever wondered why so many companies tried to copy it?

Admittedly yea it has been going downhill with every new version. Plus the battery replacement is a bitch but that's standard apple bullshit for you.

Umm...what?! 80gb is not enough for you? I've got a 30gb and it's plenty for now.

Actually failry cheap these days after the price drop at the end of 2006.

Not true. The headphones aren't top of the line but they more than do the job.

Bagging out the ipod because you're so anti-ipod and have probably never owned one, or you are a disgruntled ex-customer who happened to get a dud?

Their marketing is fantastic. As much as I dislike it, it does the job.

...

Now I'm no apple fanboi. In fact anyone that knows me will tell you that I fucking hate Macs and most other apple products but the ipod. Their marketing gets on my nerves, their products are usually way overpriced, fixing things is a bitch, and their OS for the mac is the worst fucking piece of shit ever invented.

But...their ipods are good. The sound quality is brilliant (read any review, anywhere) even with the standard headphones, and especially with the newer design ones. Sure if you're a real audiophile you can go and get better headphones but there really is no need. Generally they are pretty damn good with a few niggles here and there and they don't sell so well just because of the marketing and because it may be "cool" to have one.

Well, that's sort of a moot point anyway. You're listening to MP3's, which are highly compressed anyway, and sound crappy. The difference between the various players' sound quality is almost negligible.

have you listened to a creative? its worlds better, even on terrible speakers - assuming you set a decent EQ|

I have owned a Creative player before, and have a bunch of friends who still own one. Almost all of them wish they had a different player, for varying reasons though. And, to say the sound quality is 'worlds better' is a massive exaggeration. Go and test the difference in sound quality output on a few types of studio monitors, and see how much difference you find. Not much. At all.

Though, I have only attempted to test the difference (between MP3 players) on Yamaha HS-80s and Alesis Monitor 2's.

well like i said, it depends on the set up on the player, the speakers/headphones and the encoding quality - i can hear a noticeable difference, plus many mp4 files are lower quality than some higher rated mp3s.

creatives are annoying in certain ways, but so are ipods and at least with newer creatives you can choose to subscribe, or not. using ID tags IS annoying, but they also generally have a higher signal to noise ration than most other players as well (and you can easily make playlists, and much more easily than earlier players)|
