Groovy.

Although to be honest, I wouldn't mind sharing the next contest with Cobalt if he wants. It feels a bit cheap winning on an ID that I got from the hints.

Fuck him so.

Jesus hopping Christ on a pogo stick, if I knew it was that close I would have tracked down one of the remixes I was missing.

I'm assuming you've not made one before, and since I'm all about sharing the wealth (I've made three), you should run the next contest.

Posted by isoterra on Oct-21-2007 23:30:

1 way out west - the fall (richard durand remix) IDs: 9
boshtastic butchering of WoW's classic. still fresh in most people's minds it would seem

2 ayla - ayla (space brothers & sacha collison remix) IDs: 7
one of the lesser known ayla remixes (& my personal fav) which most people struggled with for a while

3 spooky - little bullet (live version) IDs: 7
the original xpander. not quite up to its successor but timeless nonetheless

4 xstasia - sweetness (katcha remix) IDs: 2
downtempo remix of sweetness that featured on 2 chilled euphoria albums

5 armand van helden - my my my (deekline & wizard remix) IDs: 6
chunky breaks mix of armand's commercial dance hit

6 jose gonzales - crosses (superbass special mix) IDs: 2
this track spawned tons of remixes for some reason.. evidently a mere case of picking the correct one

7 bedrock - heaven scent (greg downey remix) IDs: 4
i featured the original in a contest before, in both cases it proved tricky without the melody in there

8 lucid - can't help myself (translucid vocal mix) IDs: 1 (montana unique)
massive recognisable hit. using the original would have been far too easy though

9 the prodigy - one love IDs: 6
classic prodigy, circa 1993

10 gouryella - gouryella (armix) IDs: 8
took most people several goes to get the remix on this one

11 vincent de moor - fly away (cosmic gate remix) IDs: 6
one of my favourite classic remakes of the past few years, with the sample cut off right before the recogniseable bit

12 hemstock & jennings - mirage of hope (chilled mix) IDs: 6
another of those chilled trance re-interpretations that sounds better than the original

13 baby d - i need your lovin (everybody's got to learn sometime) IDs: 5
one of DnB's more commercial moments.. a cover of the old corgis song. later revisted by marc et claude

14 bk - playing with knives (tough dub) IDs: 2
another cover, this time of bizarre inc's early 90s dance hit

15 delerium - heaven's earth (matt darey remix) IDs: 8
why is it you never get trance at that tempo these days?

16 madonna - drowned world / substitute for love (bt & sasha remix) IDs: 7
not the only time a madonna track has been improved by the sasha treatment

17 remy - scrambled IDs: 1 (montana unique)
my favourite track from the 'Bang!' EP

18 moontribe - dance of the seventh hill (dj tiesto remix) IDs: 4
unmistakably tiesto, albeit one of his lesser talked about remixes

19 gtr - mistral IDs: 11
not many problems here.. instantly recognisable, with or without the melody

20 human blue - zero tonic passion IDs: 3
something for those who say 'pure' trance is dead... an epic hypnotic masterpiece from human blue

21 energy 52 - cafe del mar (nalin & kane remix) IDs: 9
thankfully everyone got at least two points on this. i'd have probably lost sleep otherwise..

22 conjure one - sleep (max graham remix) IDs: 6
the vocal should have clinched this for most

23 chicane - don't give up (agnelli & nelson remix) IDs: 9
push2005 was the only one not to get at least two points on this. pity the fool

24 infusion vs kate bush - running up that hill IDs: 11
some more cheap points.. dished out by the dozen (well almost)

25 faithless - god is a dj (astral projection remix) IDs: 7
ok, so i forgot i used this in my last contest, as subtle pointed out. i suck =(

26 ian van dahl - castles in the sky (wippenburg remix) IDs: 5
i knew this one would bug a few people. everyone's heard it but most have tried to blank out the memory!

27 apollo 440 - aint talkin bout dub IDs: 5
sampling the infamous guitar riff from 'aint talkin bout love' by eddie van halen

28 motorcycle - as the rush comes IDs: 2
tee hee. evidently one of those forgotten originals..

29 laurent garnier - the man with the red face (jan driver remix) IDs: 4
someone thought this sounded like chicane. i couldn't see it myself..

30 mat silver & tony burt - ultimate wave (b.beach breaks remix) IDs: 2
trancey breaks; manages to be simultaneously heavenly & downright filthy!

31 faithless - insomnia (tuff mix) IDs: 3
yet another in the series of unknown versions of well known tunes..

32 tilt - i dream (resurrection remix) IDs: 7
fairly easy one for those into their classic progtrance

33 ferry corsten - junk (d ramirez remix) IDs: 6
if the riff towards the end didn't give it away then guru's inane rambling should have

34 fragma - toca me (in petto remix) IDs: 5
plenty of "argh crap i know this one" type replies here

35 cape town - pit stop IDs: 7
i returned the favour of giving mart a half point on this one, for guessing the l-vee connection

36 jan johnston - flesh (tilt remix) IDs: 5
someone guessed this was a remix of the eternal.. i'd never noticed the likeness before

37 holden & thompson - nothing (hiver & hammer remix) IDs: 7
fairly easy one, although a few struggled with the remix

38 chicane - saltwater (tomski vs disco citizens remix) IDs: 7
as above

39 faithless - drifting away (paradiso remix) IDs: 6
from back when pianos in trance were cool

40 nick rowland - the awakening IDs: 2
unsurprisingly, 12 people managed to get the title on this sampling the quake remix of york's tune of the same name

41 chakra - home (salt tank reconstruction) IDs: 3
another frantic 'guess the remix' game

42 vincent de moor - no hesitation (vdm's 2007 rework) IDs: 8
i felt a bit bad for putting this one in. i'd forgotten how similar the original sounded..

43 southside spinners - luvstruck (atlantis ITA remix) IDs: 3
a very happy tune. i only recently learned marco v was behind the original

44 coast 2 coast - home (5am remix) IDs: 3
probably familiar to more, but then it does sound like alot of trance from that time

45 bt - good morning kaia IDs: 2
some varied guesses on this one, ranging from radiohead to sigur ros!

46 alice deejay - better off alone (dumonde remix) IDs: 9
big commercial tune + unmistakable dumonde production = not many problems

47 scooter - rhapsody in e IDs: 1 (montana unique)
it's hard to believe scooter once made tracks like this..

48 trance control - atomic dance explosion (millenium mix) IDs: 0
a throwback to my early days of finding music on the net. nice to see a couple others recognised it, if not this particular version..

49 chicane - empires IDs: 2
no, it's not finished symphony. or any hybrid tune for that matter

50 carl cox - phuture 2000 (hybrid remix) IDs: 7
this one is, however!

51 azzido da bass - dooms night (stanton warriors remix) IDs: 7
based on the timo maas remix

52 three drives - greece 2000 (moonwatchers remix) IDs: 7
most people clocked the melody on this one. not quite as infamous as cafe del mar but not far off...

53 mystica - ever rest (mystica mix) IDs: 1 (Chittle unique)
amazingly this completely passed me by until hearing it at on an old oakey cd at an afterparty earlier this year. i wish trance like this was still made..

54 bt - dreaming (eric kupper remix) IDs: 5
admittedly not the most known version of this tune, but i thought more would at least recognise the vocals

55 aven - all i wanna do (planet nord chilled mix) IDs: 5
quite often labelled as 'all i want'.. accepted both names

56 maurice - feline IDs: 4
this track just doesn't age, at all.

57 mike oldfield - let there be light (hardfloor remix) IDs: 4
yay for blatant audible clues!

58 sasha & emerson - scorchio (emerson's late nite dub) IDs: 5
only 8 scored 2 or more here, which surprised me a little

59 offspring - the kids aren't alright IDs: 7
threw this in for a bit of fun.. a bit of a guilty pleasure

60 ruff driverz - don't stop IDs: 2
did it really need the hint?

61 legend b - lost in love (kinetic atom remix) IDs: 0
surprise un-ID'd of the contest.. thought this would be easy what with the vocal sample included, but alas. only cobalt even managed a partial

62 the auranaut - yo yo IDs: 2
i never saw the fuss with 'people want to be needed', found this a much nicer tune

63 scott & leon - i remember / you used to hold me IDs: 4
whoever it was that i gave zero to for guessing 'ID - I remember', i humbly apologise. i didn't even realise the track was once released under that name until Chittle pointed it out

64 sarah mclachlan - plenty (fade remix) IDs: 4
i found this far preferable to fade's massively overrated heap of shit butchering of silence. nice laid-back vocal prog

65 paul oakenfold - save the last trance for me IDs: 7
"and the most obvious hint award goes to..."

66 matt cassar - seven days & one week (dirt devils remix) IDs: 7
heh, my favourite ID for catching people out. lots of single points splashed around here

67 cascada - everytime we touch (yanou's candlelight remix) IDs: 5
i included the yanou mix of 'heaven' last time, so thought why not?

68 rapid eye - circa forever (chillseekers remix) IDs: 8
also labelled as rapid eye's chillseeking remix. accepted both

69 klea - tic toc (magik muzik remix) IDs: 7
cheesy but strangely addictive

70 moussa clarke feat fisher - love key (jody wisternoff remix) IDs: 3
i can't think of anything to write about this one.

71 dee kline - i don't smoke IDs: 5
easily google-able.. threw it in though cos it makes me chuckle

72 camisra - let me show you IDs: 6
tall paul's rehash of that sandy b tune. pvd played the breakdown at cream's ibiza closing party this year, bizarrely

73 the source feat candi staton - you got the love (now voyager remix) IDs: 2
i can only assume this didn't get much radio play outside the UK, since only the brits seemed to know it

74 vinylgroover & the red hed - the answer (2004 rework) IDs: 0
just one partial again on this.. probably from the hint. pretty solid tune as far as most uk hardtrance goes

75 balearic bill - destination sunshine (dj tiesto powermix) IDs: 11
everyone knows that sample! hell i ended up subconsciously humming the melody on hearing the announcement at ibiza airport this year (although it was for nottingham east midlands. not quite the same ring to it as barcelona)

bonuses:

76 push - universal nation IDs: 4
77 veracocha - carte blanche IDs: 12
78 tiesto - traffic IDs: 6
79 4 strings - into the night IDs: 10
80 solar stone - solarcoaster IDs: 3

THAT was it!

Plus a slush of remixes. Oh, how I could have won. Shall I count the ways? I also need to track down where I heard that goa-tastic Mystica track.

Posted by montana on Oct-21-2007 23:46:

congrats to chittle & cobalt.

could it have been this?

the second half of cd1 is nothing short of mindblowing

Posted by montana on Oct-21-2007 23:58:

i had serious problems with castles in the sky & man with the red face. they just wouldn't come out into proper form.

and i can't believe that i actually got a unique on the lucid track, that record was pretty big.

"36 jan johnston - flesh (tilt remix) IDs: 5

actually it's more like apollo 440 - liquid cool, the only difference is that they are in different key and one or two notes are changed, otherwise it's the same melody.

How did I miss these?! Especially Insomnia when you gave the Monster Mix hint!

46 alice deejay - better off alone (dumonde remix)

Gah, I searched for a couple of Better Off Alone remixes for this just before I submitted but thought it didn't sound hard enough to be Dumonde.

Still think it does!

God I was so convinced that this was Hybrid - Finished Symphony.

WTF I thought the Sweeping Strings was the original.

Apart from that, i didnt miss a single tune. Apart from the bonuses, which i cant understand so many could actually figure out. Although i got 2 of em, which i thought would be uniques.

i guess some people just have more of a knack for recognising something based on a tiny slither. same as with IDing 15 second samples for that matter

no-one managed all 5 bonuses, Chittle & THE_Chris got 4 each though

lol I returned from Mahon to EMA a couple of weeks back and there was 2 local flights called like this for Barcelona. I was in my element grinning at the voice

Oh and I hope u got my final id in time I'm about to goto sleep at 11pm and suddenly the tune hits me. fuck, it's cape town!!!! so i texted est who i thought would still be online (as i had no comp within 4 miles) and asked her to submit for me.

I also nearly didn't get circa forever. I was about to give up when it hit me.

good contest anyway, hits the right level of ease yet some 'omg i should've known that' ones with many people able to get big scores. works for me good contest, Rich

Posted by Camwin on Oct-22-2007 22:09:

Thought i did damn well with that.
You surpasses are damn lucky i don't have proper internet at hand! :P

FYI: Rapid Eye's Chillseeking Remix was one of those Ided things at the bottom of the page.

Primo contest, cheers and congrats to the winners.

It was me who noticed the likeness, and, yes, I wouldn't have noticed that if the sample wasn't featured in the contest. Now, when I know the correct answer I can hear that characteristic sample which is especially hearable in the second part despite staying in the background for the whole time.
I can't forgive myself I didn't recognize the 19th sample. Thought it was Marcos track (maybe because the "Red Bullet" resemblance).

All in all, it was a nice contest. Thanks to isoterra for all the work. BTW, when we can expect the next one?
