What can I do, I dig it...
But I do admit it gets boring too fast.
Still sounds cool, though.
If you don't listen to it more than 4-5 times a day.

99% of it goes click-click-pop-buzz, and not much else.

This is the most boring dance music climate I've heard in ten years. Only a few artists here and there, like Agoria or Gregor Tresher, make any of it palatable. Only a few DJs, like Digweed or Vath, seem to have any sense left at all.

I'm open to suggestions, because on the surface of things, the situation is mind-numbing.

Ya know, I was about to give a few suggestions as to djs to listen to or producers to check out but it seems like you have already made up your mind. I'm not gonna argue with you but it sounds to me like you just aren't searching hard enough for what you want. Hope you come around because there really is a lot of great music out there right now.

After listening to a few dozen livesets, none of which I found particularly enjoyable or memorable, and sifting through several hundred records, all of which sound about equally bland, it's begun to eat at me.

Sorry if it comes through as bitter and hostile, but I've really made an effort to uncover appealing music right now, and have become frustrated at how much I have to dig to find anything of slightest interest to me. Slam, Gregor Tresher, Agoria, Tiger Stripes, SCSI-9, and Prydz are all putting out decent work, but none of it comes close to progressive a few years ago, or trance in the 90s.

I'm tempted to say it's purely a function of BPM. Almost everything is too slow for me right now. The melodic aspects are also important, but probably secondary. Third, all this buzzy analog bass is piss-poor substitute for the solid basslines of the past.

Posted by Futureshock on Oct-12-2007 12:40:

5. Frankie Valentive - World Of What (Bushwacka Remix)
6. Tiger Stripes - Mad At Me
7. Fanu - Tears Of The Killer
8. Unkle - Burn My Shadow (Jesse Somfay Remix)
9. Unkle - Burn My Shadow (Nic Fanciulli Remix)

I'd have to agree. I'm so sick and tired of this blippy fucking nonsense everyone seems to fancy nowadays. There are still some good producers like John Graham but i'm having a really hard time finding decent stuff.

Definitely. For you people that are gonna reply "stop living in the past", please do fuck off. If you seriously think todays paedophilia is better than proper progressive house then I feel sorry for you. Also i'm not talking about the monotone boring tribal prog a la John Creamer, i'm talking tracks like Sasha - Cloud Cuckoo (Luke Chable Remix) Quivver & Blackwatch - Loveless, Yunus Guvenen - Mass Schizophrenia.

Posted by THE_Chris on Oct-12-2007 13:06:

Although there was a lot of good prog back then, there still is a good bit now, but only if you go digging.

Heres 5 recent proggy gems -

Boombatcha - Fastpath (Original mix)
Curtis Dakota - Not A Simply Thing (Maindave remix)
Robert Vadney - Perplexed State Of A World (Original mix)
Gareth Emery - More Than Anything (Jerome Isma-ae remix)
NASA - Legolam (Original mix)

All available on Beatport. Go get your teeth into them.

So people aren't allowed to develop their tastes? Isn't musical interest subjective?

Compared with minimal and "electro", I'm actually quite fond of the druggy old John Creamer and Peace Division sound. I never thought it would get to that point.

I'd also like to add these 2 (now i've got the IDs/times sorted from the ess mix they're on...

# Logistics Colourwheel {Friction & K Tee Rmx) (Dub)
# Imogen Heap - Headlock (High Contrast Rmx) (V2)

Colourwheel is particularly stunning, Headlock has the great vocals as you expect from Imogen Heap & a very good upbeat feel to it.

Looks like someone's been caning the High Contrast EM.

Posted by Ian on Oct-16-2007 14:27:

looks like you're paying attention

with being away for the first week of the month just about, I got home, got this EM 2 days later & since then I just can't stop listening. Has the freshness my senses need, without the MCing which can ruin many good sets in drum & bass (and hardcore for that matter)
