This past weekend, surprisingly they weren't as protective of the VIP room tho, which I still don't completely understand the concept of, because although it's a nice room w comfy couches, it used to be Ferry Corsten in the main room & could check out Khoury & RJ & other good locals rockin that room, now people pay cover on a night to see someone huge like if Sander K were to play & they put 2 huge dudes by both doors & the attitude is essentially "sorry, nobody can come in here to listen to Nathan Scott, you can only check out Sander K unless you took further steps to get a wristband or are a really hot chick." So aside from the hot chicks in the room, it's really like telling someone that they aren't allowed to stay in the seedy hotel off the highway, they have to hang out in the penthouse suite of a 5 star hotel. Tho I will give them props that it works, as people actually slip them money to try to get in to find out what's in there.

Whoa! Hold on there! I was talking about the current way it works & lineups in the room, when they have a good A-list DJ in the main room and they highly restrict access to getting to hear electro mashups of Castles in the Sky & whatnot. The specific show I had in mind with Khoury & RJ playing that room was back in the old days when we went to see them play in there more than we went to see Ferry Corsten, though hung out a considerable amount of time in the main room too. It was much different, as you could freely go between rooms & was so clear Seneca came up with the idea to jump through the dooorway & it made progressive in the VIP room sound so much slower compared to Ferry in the other room & everyone spent half the night leaping bacl & forth with no trouble from anyone. Back then it was more like the penthouse is @ Vision, an added bonus with good locals spinning & a change of pace if you wanted to relax for a bit or not have to talk over the main room volume, which is especially nice on a Saturday when you may be there for up to 7 hours!

relax bud. i was joking - it just could've been interpreted that way.

and i know what you mean. most clubs will incorporate that approach to every night just because not everyone is going to be there just for the headliner. the difference is that many times there'll be a "top 40" room to attract the general crowd.

here's the pisser - nowadays a club is likely to make more money with a local-yokel top 40 DJ than bringing in B-List EDM DJs that people like you and I would enjoy way more.

I know all too well about all this stuff after throwing parties, hence why we throw hot girls on our flyers now to seem more like the top 40s nights . I did want to make very clear though that I was not trying to insult Khoury or RJ because the intention was very much the opposite, I was using them as an example of the room being used as an added bonus. I think that was pretty clear though the 1st time considering I said that I went more to check out their sets than to just hear Ferry Corsten. What they're doing now seems to certainly work for them @ Cro but just seems the way the Dome Room at Vision is implemented for DJ Spin makes more sense, where people pack the room on Saturdays for mainstream & pay for that experience, rather than paying the cover for the sky room headliner to not be there for that.

i just realized you can't help but reach for a deadmau5 track if you're playing in that style.

i was fuxxing around at a friend's last night, doing mostly big room house and electro and for god's sake i kept on going for not exactly/jaded to close it out with. i caved in... but it was arguru

like you didn't see that one coming. it's the coming-of-age for any producer.
