What the hell!?

I decide to make a poll because I don't want to be authoritarian and drama ensues. LatinLover, if you're reading this, learn that there will be always someone who disagrees with you in your life, this is no excuse for you to quit - this poll isn't about you, as I said earlier in this thread. Will you stop drawing all the attention to you?

MisterOpus, no matter how strongly you disagree with someone, can you please ignore their hubris and not bite their bate? You're a great user, but posting pics of clowns and donkeys is something I wouldn't have expected from you

Bleh, from now on, if anyone asks why I'm being "authoritarian", take them to this thread...

I'm going to enjoy the rain now, I've been waiting for this water to fall from the sky for the last 4 months... bloody drought...

Nah, you're not being authoritarian at all.

The poll itself is probably a natural psychological reaction, but I just like to think that we as a community whole are better than this sort of thing from the word go.

That's just my opinion is all; no drama intended.

And I must disagree only slightly about me taking the bait. Well, okay, maybe I do take it a little, but I carry them down the rabbit hole of stupidity and silliness for a reason. I may badger, I may even get a little rude, but it's only to make a point. I simply want a worthwhile discussion or debate, and when someone continually refuses to do so in the manner in which our friend did (quite blatantly at that), I only push harder at them to try.

I won't claim that it's the most mature method of getting someone to engage in a debate. At the slightest inkling of a poster showing some sort of effort, I'm happy to back off. That just wasn't gonna happen here, though, so I kept going as a consequence. Again, probably not the most efficient and mature way of doing things. And if Latin's willing to actually support himself for once, I'd be the first to welcome him back in open, loving, librul arms.

Lira, dont think that I get bothered when people have different opinions , in the contrary I liked that. The fact is that to be honest with you I dont try hard, or need to try hard in this forum. Like the other sections on this Forum I like to browse through. But there are certain people here that claim that I dont support what I say and so on, I dont need too. I mean I havent found a worth while member to engage in a debate. Nor will I try to engage in a debate. Lira i ask you, will an intellectual come to this section to engage in a debate? Will a historian or researcher come and pose questions? Will these people get an intelligent answer form here? Is there something to learn in here? I mean come on, I have said Im active in those forums where you have these type of individuals like college professors, historians, researchers etc.. Im not trying to say you have to be one of these individuals. But my main point is these people actually know what they talk about, dont promote propaganda to benefit any party or group.

Don't be so quick to act like you know who everyone on this board is. I, for one, would classify myself as a researcher since that's what a good chunk of my graduate studies require and I've written a thesis paper on political history - granted, it wasn't on Iran or on US history, but I think I've earned the right to discuss international affairs at an academic level - after all, it's my academic and career field. You can disagree with me all you want, but please don't disregard everything I have to say simply because you've judged that I'm not in a respectable enough field. I can turn the question around and ask you... what kind of academic research have you conducted?

I am truly amazed at the level of understanding trying to be put forth by Lebezniatnikov and Shibby. What I don't understand is however, how both of you can be so welcoming to someone that says that he can substantiate all his argument with world class debating skills and sources yet has never done so once. What I can't wrap my head around is how both of you can go on a mini tirade about how people are being to hostile (which I am not denying is the case) to Latin, yet he has started in many instances the hostility and in many a case simply returns in kind. And the last thing that really bugs me is, how he claims the non partisanship of his posts, the historical focus he has somehow mastered, and the wealth of information that he has at his fingertipｓ (from this other forums he frequents) yet time and time again his posts are biased, short and unsubstantiated.

Now, I am all for having increased participation and diversity in the viewpoints expressed here. When I posted initially in this thread I said that if there were any requirements they should be kept at a minimum in order to no alienate people. When I initially posted in this thread I also did not consider this to be some sort of retaliation against any particular poster, but more of an effort to increase the quality of the new threads that were initiated in this section.

In aims of settling the debate on LatinLover, and actually proceeding to discuss the merits of this actual thread (which has clearly been hijacked), I will suggest that LatinLover copy/paste one post from the forums he is active in and prove us all wrong. That we will know that we were indeed being overly hostile and that we mustn't in the future behave in such a manner. He can initiate a different thread for that so that we can actually keep this thread on track and discuss the original issue: should we have some minimum expectations from people that are starting new threads?

I suppose that my answer is naturally going to be demeaning, which I don't like, but it is what it is.

While I consider many of you as peers automatically, no matter the state of your opinions, I also get an intuitive feeling as to when people are still just *lost* in the information matrix of hectic 21st century life. So when LatinLover makes overly stupid, bordering-on-ridiculous threads, it's easy to ignore or point our their absurdity, which while it may not affect LatinLover himself, certainly is still an important message to bring forward.

Don't get me wrong, sometimes I just want to scream to myself when I see people so locked in their own fabricated world of bullshit, but it just reminds me how glad I am that I've moved past that aeons ago. Remember: we all start at square zero and go where we go as the universe and serendipity dictate.

There's an awful lot of graduate students here as well.

But, the more you speak, the more I wonder why you post here - aren't these other forums better places to debate then? What forums are these, by the way?

LatinLover, I'm going to give you yet another opportunity. I'll bite at your proposal of sending you a PM to examine your other websites where you debate in. I'll send a PM to requesting those websites. However, any and all answers I receive back from you (including my messages sent) I will post here so we can all share what you have to offer in those other sites. I see no reason why you should hide those websites pertaining to your incredible intellect and debating power that you've boasted about so much. If there is a viable reason that you want those websites hidden from everyone, well since you've talked about them so much I think it's only fair you would explain why you don't want everyone to see them.

I think every thread latinlover is in is going to turn into a flame war, and ruin the quality of the forum, which sole purpose to foster an atmosphere of debate. Why does every thread become about latinlover and his crackpot unsupported assertions?? Truthfully, I'm tired of flaming latinlover instead of debating the topic at hand.

I respect that! Dont think Im close minded Im always open to other peoples stances on any issue. But the sad reality is that in this place you might have a certain stance and EVERYONE jumps on you and criticize you and at the end it turns ugly.

Im glad to hear that you are excelling a career in the academic world. I believe it is a very noble profession that can have an impact on individuals. Im also pursuing one in the academic field, military history to be more exact. I truly think you are a clever guy that has demonstrated class towards other peoples stance. Well since Im simply 19, starting college, I have had the opportunity to assist some historians in Miami mostly concentrating in WWII and Latin American studies. As we speak there is this research that Im looking forward and it has to do with the death of Ernesto "Che" Guevara. Here in Miami these figures are really controversial especially about the his captured. Just to give you a hint: The CIA member who caught el Che in Bolivia is claiming that Fidel Castro tipped the CIA on his whereabouts and supposedly the USSR played a role in convincing Castro to do so. Till this day that is all BS until we can prove it
