But having said that equations like Maxwell's equations (some postulated things before they were proved I suppose) are still derived from ideas which were proved with experiments which via their data yielded equations. Not the other way round. |
I agree with all of this. If you don't understand the physical terms you'll just be plugging numbers and in the case you get a non physical answer because you made a small mistake you won't know because you don't actually understand the concept. And yes most of our knowledge is derived from empirical data and then formalized through mathematics. I just really appreciate how you can take all of that data and very elegantly state it as a mathematical equation.
I think you understand where the beauty in maths lie you are just being difficult.

Lol Well like I said Maxwell's equations did that too, radio was theorised before proved. And if their were to be maths I'd consider beautiful it would be his equations, but to me they are just nice simple to use efficient tools (the similarities between some his relating to the electro-magnetic world and the physical are interesting but not beautiful).
I do appreciate maths, just dislike doing it! Beauty is a subjective thing but for me there are interesting things that can be done using maths but it's like saying... the words of a book are beautiful rather than the story. Maths provides the words to explain the beauty but is not the beauty itself.
