| Originally posted by loca Okay while it is true that some people are extremely fat because of gluttony, you have to understand that some of the people who are obese and over-eat are that way because eating for them is a coping mechanism. I read a study not long ago that proved that eating can be addictive. The gist of it (that i can remember) is that when we eat, we produce dopamine - the neurotransmitter that, among other things, allows us to experience pleasure. The study had found that people who suffer from obesity had defects in the dopaminergic responses to food; which is to say that they needed more food in order to feel "better", much like a drug addict. That study also found that a lot of those people knew of the health problems they were facing but were unable to stop themselves from eating because, as i said, eating is their way of coping with stress in their lives. Now i'm not saying everyone is like that, and i'm not saying it's okay because they're addicts. All i'm saying is don't be so quick to judge, not everyone eats just because they're complete gluttons. |
our newest employee is pretty big (i'd say 300lbs at least)
turns out he's having gastric bypass surgery, as well as subsequent plastic surgery to remove all the excess skin
his weight problems were a result of other health issues, but this guy doesn't eat a lot at all

Pretty easy for thin people who may have never had issues with weight, to make assumptions.

You really ought to know, being an adult, that people have very different reasons for weight gain....... and until you go around asking every one of them what their own reasons are, you have no right to assume why they are big. YAY WE WIN
We're the biggest potsmokers AND we're the most obese. Canada's like the Rodney Dangerfield of the entire world.
Hmm.. I'm hungry. Better get to work on helping us keep our record(s).

| Originally posted by DigiNut Bull. They can eat however much they want, they just have to exercise; these people are lacking discipline on both fronts. It's pure laziness - they'll try any asinine fad diet but heaven forbid they should actually eat less or sweat a little. Many of these same people refuse to cook or clean either. They're true couch potatoes. Excuses abound. I'm too busy, I can't handle physical activity, blah blah blah. I often spend 12 hours or more a day on some sort of work, and still find time to get some exercise in spite of a severely fucked up shoulder joint. Here's one easy way to make the time: stop watching so much fucking TV. Almost every excuse-maker I know somehow manages to find several hours every week for that particular activity. |

Of course you know better though, I mean really, these researchers are just wasting their time, go to Diginut for all the answers! |
Every addiction that doesn't actually involve physiological withdrawal symptoms is, at its root, a lack of self-control.

| Originally posted by DigiNut That's technically true (more or less), but also very misleading. In 2006 we exported about $230 billion worth to the U.S. and imported just over $300 billion, so the dollar amounts are not far off. However - and you'll have to forgive me for quoting ballpark figures from memory because I can't seem to find the exact statistic I'm looking for - over 60% of Canada's imports come from the USA, whereas not much more than 30% of the USA's imports come from Canada. That actually should make perfect sense given the fact that we import about the same as we export, dollar for dollar; the U.S. trades on a much larger scale than Canada so the same dollar amount will account for a higher portion of our imports than theirs. We are, however, a net exporter of oil and petro products, which seems to be very important to the Americans right about now. |
Stop eating fast food you fucking fat fucking fucks.
oh yeah and ride the goddamn bike once in awhile. Seriously, if you're obese it's your own damn fault. No whining.
"yo mamma so fat, when she took a bath she left a ring around the lake."
