Can you think of a more disgraceful artist for him to have remixed? Britney Spears is the poster child of musical blindness and delusion. Is this remix supposed to be a play of irony?

That's a matter of opinion. Besides, what does it matter who the original artist is as long as the end product sounds good? I'm guessing everyone here must have long lost all respect for James Holden as well.

Also, as for him playing the anthem in every set, why do you think he does it... the majority of the crowd fucking love the tune and it gets them going, also the sign of a good DJ, playing tracks that please the crowd. I hate the track and refuse to go anywhere near it, but then i'm nowhere near as good as PvD

Well part of the problem is he patronizes this shit and attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

I dont mind the Anthem but its the other shit I cant take like Born Slippy, White Stripes, Oasis, and the slow techy shit he seems to play for about an hour every set these days.

Posted by Arteh on Nov-04-2007 14:02:

me too , the new album is realy bad cheesy music in it

Posted by AustralianGQ on Nov-04-2007 16:06:

havent heard the song and dont want too, just b/c its britney spears, not b/c PVD did a remix. an odd choice for a remix, yes but that doesnt make him a bad dj. he still makes good music and has good sets.

If you are refering to plastikman - Spastik you can fock right off

I personally think PVD is a genious. His mixing is superb, there is no question about that, and he knows exactly when to throw on a party tune. If your the kind of person who goes clubbing to stand at the front and watch his every move whilst writing down the tracklist in a notebook, then you might get pissed off by the occasional slightly more commercial tune. If you go to dance and have a good time you will find that he creates an atmosphere that is second to none! And the way he layers tunes over the top of eachother on the fly is simply awsome. His essential mix from global gathering is absolutly superb, especially the first hour and a half.

Well, when James did it, the idea seemed to be either a pisstake, or to prove the point you can turn even an absolutely shit record into something decent.

As for why Paul did it, I don't know and I don't care.

And what did Holden do?

... which the label then didn't release as they werent main stream friendly enough remixes. Holden then released the remixes for free on his website. He didn't want to make accessable remixes that appealed to a broad majority, thats the difference.

I quite liked the A&B remix of one of Britney's tracks.

Interested to hear what PVD has done with this track, though I'm not a fan of Britney's latest "comeback".

Bring on the PVD remix of the Spice Girls!

Btw out of the big names in trance I always thought PVD had the best technical skills.

In all honesty, I could see PVD doing great stuff with some of those old Spice Girls songs

hm yeah hes more of a has-been right now, his name can still pull big audiences but I dont see him rlsing something of 'dyk technik' class right now, maybe he's just tired after 15 years and doesnt care anymore..

yeah that. When he is on form he blows any other trance DJ out of the water.

I went to see him on fri night and what a crap set it was! never again!

Posted by XaNaX on Nov-05-2007 16:31:

I haven't heard the track but if it is complete and total shit it wouldn't be a shock to me. We are talking about the same PvD that drops Anthem multiple times in a set.

Posted by HaeD on Nov-05-2007 17:42:

Playing the anthem once is useless. Playing it twice is hilarious.

1st. He doesn't mix. He uses Ableton which mixes the tracks for him.

2nd. I am not the person who is down at the front with a notebook. I have seen PVD loads of times for loads of years and heard him play the best sets of my life with his banging tunes and uplifting trance. Until this year he has been the best by far. But now you can only really call 50% of his set uplifting and thats including the usual "Nothin But You" and all the same tunes he plays every set. When we used to see him it used to be 3 hours of the most up to date uplifting music that you could possibly want to hear but now his sets dont flow or have any construction to them.

Sorry, I haven't had the chance to read all the posts, but I just wanted to chime in. Doesn't PVD pre-date 99% of the Trance producers out there right now? Most of these guys wouldn't even be here without his influence. He had like 3 or 4 full length albums (which were very good) before 2001.

As for the Britney Spears remix, PVD has accomplished so much in a short time that he is probably shooting for a Grammy.

I think the argument is more of a "What have you done for me lately?" one, as opposed to anyone really outright saying he hasn't done anything (which would clearly be an absurd claim to make, even for those of us who don't particularly care for PvD).

I really don't think it's all that dissimilar from the issue I have with contemporary Sasha.

I do find Paul van Dyk advertising women's underwear and other items on his MySpace page quite odd. I thought people were mistaken and it was a MySpace add, but it's not - it's actually PVD advertising this merchandise. Gives new meaning to the word "sell out". lol.
