I'm with Cosmic. It's a good invention but it shouldn't have won best invention. It should have one the best design award. As all the features were available on other phones ages before the iphone.

| Originally posted by Cosmic Fur That said, it doesn't deserve "invention of the year" by even a long stretch. Just because a lot of people are talking about it, doesn't mean there was a lot of inventing going on there. |
saying an iPod is an invention is like saying Edison invented electricity...
I've had my Treo 650 for about two years now. It has a touch screen (yes, a perfectly good one), an SD slot currently holding a 2 GB card (which by the way, the iPhone doesn't support), an MP3 player, an NES/SNES emulator, a camera, and a dozen other useful 3rd party apps/games. The web browser looks exactly as you'd expect a web browser to on that size screen, and if I don't like it, I can always install Opera Mobile, which is at least as good as Safari.
Oh, and it's also unlocked GSM, supports GPS applications, and is built tough enough to withstand a bit of a drop.
So what exactly did Apple add? Oh yeah, the WICKED-ASS TOUCH SCREEN! Because it's not just any touch screen, it like, ACTUALLY SENSES TOUCH! And the web looks so much better with Apple's shitcake anti-aliased text! Oh, and, and, and... WIFI! Even though nobody actually uses it, and it drains the battery instantly, it's important for some reason! And just forget about the fact that every smart phone made since 2006 has had it!
Yeah... it looks nice. That hardly qualifies it for an "Invention of the Year" award.

Well its just pressure. If you have your keys in your pocket which is pressed up against your phone/mp3 player etc. Once you sit down pressure is applied and BAM you're in for a new LCD.
Or you have to get a new one... either way you're SOL.

| Originally posted by Orko Another fanboy who is behind the times. I have been playing NES, SNES, Sega, Genisis, Gamboy Advanced, and Quake on my pocket pc (or any smart phone with WM2003+) for the last 2 years. If you actually find a feature that is not on other portable deviecs, come back, but please learn whats out there. Again any PPC using Windows Mobile, can run Opera, which is just as good as iPhone's (stripped down)Safari browser. Opera even allows you to change your settings to fool webpages into thinking it's a desktop, so you can get at more content. As for wifi, again, please do your research. Most smart phones now come with built in wifi (ex. Toshiba g900). All of these smart phones, have a fully senstive touch screen. The entire surface area, entire resolution is availble for use by the finger. It is up to software coders to develop apps which take advantage of the extra input interface. I have been using Resco software, which allows you to do anything with your picture. Crop, zoom, brighten, contrast...omg, all with your finger! Just use the touch screen! Storage? How about actually putting an SD card slot in your iPhone, rather than being limited by the built in memory. If you want to give somebody else a picture, you need to hook up to a computer, or 'conveniently' email, or send a picture message ($$$). If you want to make a point about how intuitive the interface is, please do so. If you want to compare features, then stop because we have seen everything before (yes even google maps). They created an INTERFACE, not a phone, or a set of bundled features. |

| Originally posted by StereoPrincess yeah but it could have been soooooo much better. i mean it is amazing. but the fact that it's locked into AT&T. plus the slower network. i mean there is lots of room for improvement and i bet the improvements will come so fast we won't even know what hit us. |

When you have people gasping infront of you when you show them the cool features of the phone.. you know you have a great fucking toy!!! |
