We see these players playing for their clubs week in, week out, putting in amazing world beating performaces. Then we see the same players play for England, and they simply don't care. All they care about is who pays their wages. Beckham was the exception as he seemed to play miles better for England than he did for Man Utd... I shall also add Michael Owen to that list So, two players care about their country... |

| Originally posted by fayraree lol good one. no argument here. I've met the team several times when they came to Toronto to play India in the Sahara Cup in the late 90s. Bunch of drunken wankers if you ask me! From time to time, when the payout is right, they'll show up! lolEdit: I shouldn't say that about all of them, though. The ones who respect their religion are a bit more humble are definitely beautiful people. The other ones are like George describes of his English players. And you, Mr. Smiley, if you watch them play and their heart isn't in it, chances are they SUCK and it has nothing to do with pride for England, ffs. Talk about making gross assumptions! Edit2: And just to fill out the whole profile here, because you do give me sufficient attention when I was in Saudi for 13 years I lived with Aussies for most of them and they taught me how to play cricket (lol yes I'm that good!! LOL!!) then I played for my boys' school in Toronto for 4 years and won various bowling awards (not such a big deal because Canadian players suck) but most students that played cricket in the independent school league were boarding students from the Carribean and Europe, so there were some good challenges from time to time). Highlight was a UK tour I was on in 1995 when we played Eton, Harrow, Winchester, Wellington (if I remember correctly), and a couple of other schools. We almost beat one of the public schools we played, and I can't remember which one. I was on a hat-trick and then I sprained my ankle shortly after lol what a loser. And I've been a goalkeeper in soccer throughout grade school (1-8) and high school and also intramural in university (not for the school team, but intra-college). Did pretty well in that regard, too, if I don't say so myself! |

I don't think its really about money, pride or heart...
its simply that the national teams don't train & play enough together ... so even if the team is combined of stars, the starts sometimes can't play as a real team

Can't say I was that good at it though...too busy with my nose in the books, studying ways to refute arguments like yours!
Mind you, your arguments are weak; just takes common sense to dismantle them!

everyone who does would know that everytime an English player (other than Rooney/Beckham/Owen) does up their laces, they automatically deflate and lose their will to win because they're playing for England!!!
It might be partly about effort, specially in less important games, but most of the time I believe the reason for players playing like shit for their national team, is that they don't fit in as well in the tactics. Don't forget that they spend the entire year training with their clubs, perfecting all the moves and little details, while in the national team they get 2 or 3 days before the match to settle in. Sometimes the players don't even get to gel with each other, as there's always someone injured, someone who didn't get called up because he's playing like shit for the club unlike last time, or someone who is brought into the first team because the national team manager is changing tactics. There hardly ever is a well-defined starting 11.
Of course, manager incompetence sometimes is a factor too in these FAIL!! events on national teams - but football fans tend to be too negative with all managers, usually they have 2 or 3 favourite managers, and the others are all seen as shit because they made the wrong substitution once. Same with referees, the difference is that people don't even know any "good referee".
I sense I might be going a little off-topic.

Yeah but so what everyone has their shitty weather. I've been forced to practice real football in 111F before. I'd rather have cold nuts than pass out and cramp up.
