AWA's didnt really effect me, well not that I know of.
I over heard a guy asking about a waitressing position for his daughter on Saturday to find they get paid $7 an hour? No wonder kids are selling drugs!
I wonder if they charge for public holiday loading
I got hired on a contract at the start of the year under an AWA, (to offset some interest rates on my mortgage- normally I work for myself in real estate) I didn't do too bad because I'm fairly belligerent and know what I'm worth to a business.
So I did 'ok'
A lot of people don't do ok though and its just sort of led to hiring a lot of people that don't really want to be there in the first place, then even more unhappy about what they're getting paid and as a result, not delivering expectations. Maybe you can sort of get away with that in an industry where customer service isn't an issue, but its not making it easy.
After January, I'm not signing back on for another 12 months...
I find it funny that so many people bitch about work choices and voted for Rudd because of it, when in reality, if you asked ten people on the street, probably just one would be able to give you an accurate account of work choices and how they actually affect a person's rights.
A lot of people viewed work choices as a way for employers to screw employees, which is not true.
As I've said before, my parents run a fairly large tourist operation employing 60 or so people, and were made to raise all hourly wages by $1 due to work choices, when they were already paying 16 and 17 year olds $17-18 an hour.
