i have a friend who is dating a vagino.

her justification is that she thinks its hot they take that much time. in fact she thinks its really considerate and hot when her bf asks her what she's wearing so he can find something that matches.

This is actually a very old custom that is considered proper etiquette. A man should dress to compliment his companion for formal events. I will always choose my shirt and tie to compliment Mrs. Hazard's attire when formal dress is required.

+1, always, always, always match your shirt/tie (esp. the tie) to your date, corsages too if the event calls for it.

That's more of a formal protocol...hitting the club doesn't count.

Like so many people mentioned, it's just a social custom to sort of "match" when going somewhere formal.
