Real review.
I can't believe I almost didn't come to this.
Talla was un-fucking-believeable. Track selection, flow, everything. Probably the best set I've ever heard in Guv. Johan had nice tracks but his breakdowns were too long and I ended up getting really bored at times.
I would still give the night a 10/10 just because of the sheer maddness when Talla was on, and the kickin' tracks Johan spun.
The crowd was actually great, no pushing or shoving. Wasn't overly packed and there was always room to dance and jump around. The booth was brought down a lot so Talla and Johan could interact with the crowd.
Awesome, awesome night which will not be forgotten.
Was nice seeing all the TAs and going bonkers everything a classic came on.
That video of Talla playing Shine & seeing Talla go nuts in the dj booth pretty much sums up the whole night i think. That video should be put in the first post and thread should be closed as no other review neccessary.

<3 Talla
I can't believe I missed this last night because I couldn't find anyone to exchange my worthless American money into alcoholic drink coupons at 10:30 at night.
WHEN MY LEG HEALS I AM GOING TO BE DANCING ON EVERYTHING AND ANYTHING AT MY NEXT EVENT @ GUV!!
oh yeah well Cenik will be dancing right beside me
Smunky - ur welcome
Abercrombie - cant wait to meet you all!
Nick - bending over for people now eh? lol
got in to guv jsut after 12ish thinking that johan would be on only to realize that MO was still warming up the crowd. to my suprise talla came on as i thought he would close out the night.
first thing i'll say is that the sound was just HORRIBLE! the bass was set so high it drowned out everything else. it was so nice hearing a crisp sound 2 weeks ago at PVD so i was hoping they would have it set properly tonight as well. that was one of things that really downed the party for me. when u can't enjoy the music, it just isn't the same.
talla had a good pace and his selection was quite good as well. although i think that when he was here for US12, he played a better set. the room was pretty full during his set, but not packed. the pushing and shoving still occured at different times (at some points it was really really distracting) but i found a good spot by the front left speaker which had ok sound and not too much traffic. too bad it was near the end of his set. The crowd interation was great. the hydrolic dj booth really plays a big role in the performance and it helped a lot in the enjoyment of the night. it's amazing to see a veteran like talla still dance it up and great to see him enjoy what he does. he was on for 2.5 hours (from 1am till 3.30) after which point he made it down to the floor level and chatted it up with many people about w/e. i asked him if he's a big fan of heroes (cuz of saying on the back of his shirt) and he loves all the good shows like prison break, csi, lost, etc. for anyone who's curious, his favorite character on heroes is hiro
.
i gotta say, i love seeing johan gielen everytime he comes down to toronto. this is my 4th time seeing him and it definetly won't be my last. the guy brings so much energy to the stage it's just hard not to watch him and take it all in. his crowd interaction is like no other and can't be touched imo. getting up on stage, singing to the songs, and giving out cd's are just some of the things he did last night. he also played for 2.5 hours in which he had some ups and downs, but mostly it was good. i've become used to his long breakdowns and soak up the good tuneage this man plays. he had a good couple of tracks to keep the flow after talla's set but then really slowed it down in the middle. in the end however he brought it back up by throwing down some classics like saltwater and twisted. another veteran of the music, and just like talla, i love to see him enjoy the music as much as any other person out on the dancefloor.
sry for the long essay, but i haven't written a proper review in a long time. i loved seeing a lot more TA's than i thought there would be cuz of the roll call.
NNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
It was an absolutely insane night. Talla played the set of the year IMO. It was so damn good to me, that if I had to pick a trance set in the time that he had, 90% of the tunes he played would be on it.
He was able to mix it up and down, keeping everyone on their toes.
Of the 30 - 40 people I spoke to that night, it was all the same. They all thought it was amazing, and he seemed to play everyone's favorite song within the set. For many people it was big sky, for some it was fly away, no in between, shine, the horizon, etc etc.
No disrespect at all to mark oliver or johan...Mark did a great job again, I have no more doubts about that anymore when I walk in.
Johan, it was an allright set, but it was just a bad time. He couldn't match that energy and everyone started to sleep (aside the sketch). Some very nice tunes in there still.
Spoke to Talla for a long time after, and he is just a super guy.
He loves what he does and takes it very seriously.
Going to continue a post for those who want to show further support to a very deserving legend of a DJ.
For all those who would like to show further suppor to talla you can drop by his website and give him a guestbook post.

He absolutely loves that type of thing, and claimed fan interaction is what keeps him going.
(he even got pissed off when they raised DJ booth up high, told them to keep it low so he can feed off the people in front)
As well he is actively on my space and loves to hear from people who come to his gigs.
Great guy, have heard quite a few sets from him now and he deserves a shit load of support.
