Isn't it pretty impractical to arrive and depart in the middle of two weekends?

Anyway, if the lineup for Awakenings is good and my cousin is still in town, I might just swing by.

How is it impractical?

Anyhow, that's when my vacation is - so other dates really weren't even a consideration.

And the event I want to see most while we're in town runs the 16-20.

Edit: Also, thanks for the link to the awakenings site - I think Glannie mentioned it as well but I had forgotten.

I thought it would be in regards to parties and that flights tend to cost a hell of a lot more the closer to the weekend you get. But if that's the only timeframe you have then fair enough.

Ah, yeah - I'm really not coming over there to hit up any parties, more so just to relax for a week in the middle of a hectic semester.

Also, and maybe oddly - flights were far cheaper on Saturdays than any other day of the week. I was shocked, but flying on Friday and Sunday were around $150-300 more per ticket than flying on Saturday.

This: http://www.jaminthedam.com/

...is the event I'd like to see the most of. Particularly Lotus.

Those walls look awesome.

The blue walls look like pokeballs.

Please eat some mushrooms in your hotel

If they're still easy to obtain we absolutely will.

there's a life-sized robot in our hotel.

Posted by RJT on Jan-07-2008 22:14:

The one thing that will be interesting is that our hostel/hotel is going to be full of poor hippie/college kids because of Jam in the Dam, so I wonder if it will be nuts like hotels get around festivals over here.

When I booked our room today and was checking availability, they basically had every single dorm style bed/room situation totally booked for the week - nothing was available, except of course the private rooms with their own bathrooms. It was just nuts to see basically every cheap hostel room in Centrum totally booked, but plenty of private rooms available at reasonable rates.

Who's life? Technically 3 feet is life sized if it's only a 3 foot tall robot

And, as far as location goes - this is pretty much epic for such a short trip:

Posted by Clovis on Jan-07-2008 22:32:

Fantastic find. I spent most of my 3 days in Holland at the airport, Dance Valley, and sleeping in the hotel...really want to go back for real some day...

Posted by RJT on Jan-07-2008 22:35:

I'm most excited for the noise of the city. That area is pretty loud 24 hours a day - and it's such good background noise to fall asleep to.

I stayed on Prinz Hendrikkade for a few nights the last time I was there and could look out a huge window at all the traffic cruising by Centraal - I loved it.

Good timing on your behalf, I think you'll make just before they're gonna try and clean the RLD up a bit.
Quality place for staying in a hotel too.

Oh and that Prinz bit: please no, that's German

Mea culpa

And yeah - I'm very happy, though the weather won't be much better than what we'll have here, I'm kind of hoping it's a bit drizzly - I definitely loved walking around in the rain.

What was the link to that Band website again? I saw your post in Music and wanted to check it out later, but now I can't be arsed to dig for it ....

* edit * And where is the festival?

And the link to the set is here: http://www.tranceaddict.com/forums/...highlight=lotus

I don't think we're going to buy the festival pass, just get tickets for one or so nights and see the shows we want to see.

You should come down - I'll buy you a pint

Posted by emre on Jan-07-2008 23:00:

Cheers for the link, will check it out. If me likes, we'll buy eachother a pint

The Melkweg is a quality venue, home to many a proper Earth party as well although Earth has gone downhill a little as of late.

Is Glannie coming to Amsterdam? That kid lives on the other side of the country (and being Dutch, 200 km feels like the other side of the world, yes it does.)

Posted by RJT on Jan-07-2008 23:18:

Yup - he said he would come in for a day too, and I'm really indifferent as to what we do, for all I care we could just meet up somewhere for drinks.

And I've had a bit of fun at the Melkweg before, nice place.
