I have no ties to Pakistan and....not to seem harsh but her death will have little to no affect on my life.....just like Princess Diana's death has had no affect on my life. that's so true. Even Diana's had no real one on my life personally, bar knowing & seeing people discussing that. And now 10 years on they're finally having a trial which won't show up what actually happened, which is a monarchy sponsored assassination so she didn't marry a muslim man and 'embarass' future king of england

The death of millions of people will have 0 effect on me, yet i still fill pity for them. That is a very cold perspective mate.

i thought we already proved to you her death and rising tension in pakistan would in fact have an impact on your life-


princess dianas death was tragic but it didnt have anywhere near the political consequences butto's death will have, that i agree with-

as someone who lived in asia, what sort of effect does pakistan have on the middle-east/oil etc stuff. Is it just financial, or do they have a hands on part that we don't know about?

just consider the possibility that pakistan is harbouring terrorists...

plus the proximity of pakistan the hotbed of the middle east-

people have (btg + others) already mentioned gas prices rising and stocks falling directly because of this-




it's a global economy now more than ever and everything is a factor.

Im not entirely familiar with the situation, but don't the potential political consequences here far outstrip the possible rise in oil costs and economic impact as a whole.

On Fox it's Lord of Bass, Samim - Heater, and even some Sean Tyas.

This is about a lot more than just oil and economics. Not only is Pakistan very unstable internally, it also has nuclear weapons and tensions with its neighbors. It was in a state of emergency just a couple of weeks ago. Things could get very bad.

In a word, yes.

So far there hasn't been much rioting, but there is still potential for the country to tear itself asunder. I think the media is overplaying how much it will affect the political situation within the country in and of itself - the prospects for democracy were already tenuous at best. It's more likely to have an effect if her supporters pick up arms, which is likely in the event that the current government is in any way implicated.

Terrible and tragic as this is, I think it would have been far worse had she stood for election, won, and then been killed sometime after taking office. In that case, control over the government (and nuclear weapons) would have been extremely unclear.

Essentially my only familiarity with the situation in Pakistan is what I hear on NPR news on the way to campus in the morning, but when I heard of Bhutto's death this morning I was floored. It will be very scary/interesting to see how the general populous in Pakistan reacts to this over the next few days - folks are already well pissed at Musharef, I can't see them taking this well.

I'm surprised Musharraf hasn't busted out the emergency rule again.
