I've been to the Tampa airport many, many, many times (Family in St. Pete). It's a very nice airport, but it doesn't hold a candle to Singapore, Hong Kong, or Bangkok.

Changi didn't have free wireless, but they have terminals you can use for websurfing

shopping around, flying on days when no one wants to fly ( xmas day come on! lol ... the airports were ghost towns and flights nowhere near full )

I paid 450$ (US) for a return ticket Amsterdam - NY JFK
(however with a layover in Iceland).. it just comes to finding the right opportunities

As a frequent flyer I can tell you that there are some decent airports out there but there are also a bunch that completely suck

Top 3 sucky airports
3: Milan Malpensa - always bustransfers to planes instead of gates
2: Paris Charles de Gaulle - messed up with too many terminals and confusing entries and the offer of shops and food & drink stalls behind customs completely sux
1: Warszawa - newly built terminal was closed due to fire regulation so they have twice as many flights as possible in their old Sovjet style terminal. this results in massive queues which you are unable to leave and once u get through customs there is nothing more than recycle bins, benches and a toilet (not even a soda machine!)

Best airports:
proud to say - my homebase - Amsterdam Schiphol Airport.. why? cause u never get bored and it has loads to do behind the customs
Copenhagen Kastrup - similar layout to Schiphol yet smaller - loads of shops and things to do
London Heathrow is reasonable (too busy + heavy security) but the business class lounge rocks with free chips, drinks, TV/DVD and Playstation available

most boring airport i've ever been to was the Northern Kentucky airport.

my favorites so far have been Detroit and Atlanta.

Birmingham International sucks. the food in depatures is dreadful and it's one big room with a few shops around it and loadsa people. If ever there, eat before you go through customs, there's a couple of pub-type places with edible food. i recommend the steak, mushroom & onion pie

as long as i can get southwest eggrolls from a Chili's express, i'll be okay. those things saved me after being awake and partying for 24 hours in Atlanta.

also, whichever airport it was that had a PB&J's (all they sell is different variations of peanut butter & jelly sandwiches) - i thought that was a pretty brilliant idea for airport food. unfortunately i can't even remember what airport that was at.

As for UK airports, The only one I liked was Manchester Int'l, even though I had to walk the entire length of the airport to get to the rails

I definitely didn't like London Heathrow or London Gatwick

I love EMA. the food is tolerable for breakfasts if expensive, but the whole thing is well run, flights take off on time, there's as much shopping as birmingham yet nowhere near the number of people and it's handy for me, nearly on my doorstep, just 20 mins away. Walks to the planes rule too, and ur just bussed back but straight to immigration so it's actually quicker than walking.

now that im sober and rethinking of it... you might be right..

as big as an airport it is, memphis really sucked..

memphis is #1 cargo airport in the world

atlanta is #1 passenger airport in the world (although i do think it flip flops yearly with some asian airport)

dubai will blow both of them out of the water in 5 years... along with everything else they are doing... they'll probably double both those airports, just b/c they want to be the biggest in everything in the world..

i think i read that their airport now is already in the top 10 in the world in size, but they think its old and outdated... so they are building another one that has something like 3 or 4 parts of which each part is bigger than the original...

For passenger traffic, it's usually atlanta, the chicago-o'hare, then heathrow, then tokyo haneda
