minimal is the future.

Love Poundin' Sensation

I have absolutely adored minimal since I heard it for the first time last February.

If you want a proper minimal set, dl anything by Jon Gaiser..

He is my perfection.... discovered him at DEMF... and I didn't even go to see him... yet he stole the show <3 <3

I didn't realize Anthony spun minimal... last time I saw him he didn't..

Thanks for the suggestion Katy

The Minimalists FB group has a link for the following set so I'll give it a listen: Gaiser - Live Voltt - 2-18-2006

Will do! Thank you!

I personally don't like it - I find it boring. To me, it has no feeling cause it doesn't stir any emotions. It's like elevator music. I dunno how people go nuts to it in clubs.

LOL... its funny to hear these reactions to it.... I respect your opinion because I fully understand it, but if you could only hear what goes on in my head when I listen to minimal..... beauty I tell you... plain and simple beauty

well, I dunno how much more variance of bleepbloop and clickclack can you make

but yes. I think 'pure' minimal will die and minimal will blend in with tech house simple fact that people need variance. People don't like being bored

I agree with you 100% I am sick of going to hear a good techno DJ and paying good money to hear slow boring shit that never goes anywhewre. What ever happened to hard techno and hard trance. That shit really got the crowd going and everybody had fun.

Posted by Techo Head on Jan-08-2008 03:55:

Maybe someone should invent an electronic style called "complicated". I would love to hear hard complicated music

i've argued with you about this before, i don't think minimal is just techno. Many producers out there play with minimal sound inventing more and more interesting stuff and its not techno.
the dj's you've mentioned do in fact play mostly minimal techno but there is much more to that sound imo.
btw the set carola played was mostly techno, hard pounding techno, a few minimal tracks.

Posted by sixtysix on Jan-08-2008 04:06:

Pounding techno although okay, loses its appeal way to fast as its too much cheese and repetition.

Posted by rabbitjoker on Jan-08-2008 04:33:

What is this trend you speak about?

Posted by Ub3rBreaker on Jan-08-2008 04:35:

you call your music minimal, but yet I call it simple

I respect everyone's taste... but I do find this to be amusing
catchy line me thinks

any of you guys said that a Minimal set is boring , probably doesnt know shit about minimal ...Minimal like any other gener Could be Dark,Twisted,Techy,Melodic & etc.

As for some of you guys who wants to hear some good Minimal tunes/sets i'd suggest to check out Toi Bar every Friday ... Noha Pred ,Eric Downer ,Lee Osborn,Ian Guthrie, Jamie Kid ..) doing good job on droping a pretty good Minimal set (Atleast compare to what we have in toronto) ...

as for the previuos comment that mentioned there's no Melodies in minimal , i strongley recommend you to check out ,some of our very own local talents productions' on beatport "Partialsound " guys
( Maziar + Kpax) to see how Melodic & beautyful a minimal tune could sounds like ...

Posted by kotsy on Jan-08-2008 05:07:

I love it!
I was obsessed with electro house for awhile, but I'm finding myself more and more into minimal, techo & progressive/tech house.

You don't really like house either, so I can understand why you don't like minimal. Minimal is more about the "funk" than the "emotion".

Dude, minimal has been around for a long time, and it's not dying any time soon.

I would say the "minimal trend" is in it's maturity phase. Things are getting a lot more techier. When I was at DC10 in Ibiza, I barely heard any minimal at all. It was very techy.

I love Gaiser, but I don't really think he plays the most accessible sound. He's more about really fat, funky, low octave basslines, with few builds, and very distorted sounds.

For anyone that's looking to get into this new sound that's being called "minimal", looking for actual minimal is looking in the wrong direction. I'm of the opinion that this new sound is just a new turn techno has taken and is for some reason being called minimal. A lot of this new stuff that's being played isn't really minimal at all.

Graham, if you don't consider Jon Gaiser minimal, what is your exact definition of minimal??... can I hear a track or set?

your definition of his sound is pretty exact, but I would consider this a broad definition of minimal.

Shall we call it dark minimal?

just as this thread has sort of evolved into a discussion of what 'minimal' actually is/isn't...

I'm sorta curious to know what some of you actually consider to be 'hard pounding techno'?

nah... one techno thread is enough for me. I just find it sort of humorous, thats all.

Well said!

As for what hard pounding techno is...here's the harder stuff I fell in love with (but it's certainly not as hard as it gets)

I was there for the first and last ones

Man I miss those nights with her at Aria.
