Huckabee doesn't seem electable in the blue states.. while he's a good ol' boy in the red states.. If he gets elected as President it will only be because the ultra-conservative evangelicals come out to vote; much like they did for Bush last two elections. If the evangelicals are disillusioned as much as the media say they are with the Republicans then Obama has a chance.
Obama will only win if he has John Edwards as his VP.. It's a pretty good fit, John Edwards has the experience that Obama lacks and he's white which won't then scare off a bunch of racist Americans.

In many ways, I can see myself agreeing with you, but a downfall of a major power player typically is followed by a period of chaos... My vote goes to Hilary.. |

Thats all good and well vrk, but please try to remember, in the process of overgeneralizing us "americans", that most of us are just people who live day-to-day and just want to live a respectable life while not harming others. Unfortunately, as much as I love my country, in recent times we have had huge problems with our GOVERNMENT and its policies. Not only are our international policies SHIT, but our own affairs are going up in flames as well. Our economy sucks, we still dont have healthcare, etc etc the list goes on forever.............
SO please remember that, while people like to just throw out how much they hate "us", that we are just regular people trying to live everyday. I get up, go to class and make a living and pay bills just like everyone else....... so why is it that you would like to see my downfall. And yes, you DO want to see my down fall, because I am an American, and if this country falls, it will affect MY everyday life in a negative fashion.
Last time I checked, I had a pretty good relationship with my canadian/euro/south american/caribbean/etc friends, and they put it much more eloquently when they stated that they would like to see "change" rather than "downfall", so that us regular folks dont have to crash and burn with it.
PS I also dislike Oprah.

Kids, I am american, you cant take that away from me, nor do I want you to. So.... love me or hate me, but you cant separate the two, its part of my identity and culture.

vrk, yes I do understand what you were trying to say. I shoulda written things better myself, but thats why I was talking about how the downfall of our country would affect MY everyday life in a negative fashion.
Look at how much the actions of our government has ALREADY affected my everyday life.....our dollar is practically worthless, our economy sucks, conservative laws in every which direction, the decisions of our idiot leader indirectly leading to buildings in MY city to crash and burn by terrorists, the increase of fear and frustration (stemming from the lack of concern for our own citizens and the fact that the whole world "hates" us), not to mention the internal affairs (and even international policy...ie: darfur, etc) which have been completely ignored since GWB has his own agenda.
So even if you say you dont hate americans (which I fully believe you dont), "wishing" for the downfall of a country is certainly a negative comment towards the people who are just trying to get by and live life here, espcially the one's who are in complete agreement with the rest of the world.
Vrk, I totally see where you're comming from. I find that a lot of Americans I have spoken to about always associate these opinions as a hatred of Americans. As YankeeBaby said, she will obviously associate with this, since it is her country.
I would love to see an eventual withdrawal of the US from all foreign nations and lands, and a total restructuring of their entire socio-economic system. They are one of the only nations on Earth with the wealth and power to lead humanity towards unknown heights of peace and achievement. Unfortunately, their current policies make this impossible. I would love to see them draw inward, stop playing as the world police force. They have the potential to be a beacon of human achievement and lead the world through example, not force.... Anyways that's a mouthful of wishing that will probably never come to fruition.

| Originally posted by zokissima Not neccessarily. Your country has all the resources it could ever want to make the lives of its citizens better in every way. If the INSANE amount of money spent on "defense" (which I find laughable) were devoted to internal initiatives, who knows how far your nation could go. All that is needed is uncorrupt and effective leadership, which unfortunately can be argued your country has seldom had.. Ultimately, and unfortunately for you and 200 million of your countrymen, due to corporate greed, social miseducation, and a plethora of other factors spanning the last 60 years, your nation has tied itself into the unfavourable position that if it were to suffer a downfall, its citizentry would have quite the shitstorm to brave. Anyways, just my nutshell opinion |

| Originally posted by EvilTree Terrorism in US was going to happen one way or another, because fundy Muslims don't like the Great Satan much. The 'world hates us' thing goes all the way back... I'd say even back to Monroe Doctrine (Euros piss off in Americas. It's US turf now) Abrasive US foreign policy is something constant since the independence from Britain. I think Bush pushed Darfur as much as he can. Because US is so despised by a lot of Muslim countries, US cannot be seen as taking the lead against another Muslim nation. (Or it'd be another Zionist crusaders invading holy Islamic land thingy) So US can try to get others to take the lead in Darfur, but with substantial interference from Sudan backed by China, nothing much is going on. Esp. since everyone has to work within UN (which is a total joke) |
