+1. a typical christian, even in Europe/Netherlands, would (if he realy understands his/her religion); never
a) judge over someone else's life

What saddens me is not that the WBC have such hateful views or that they disrespectfully protest the funerals of soldiers et al as evidence of God punishing the US for it's tolerance of homosexuality, it's that this hate is being taught to thier children.

I can only hope that as thier children grow up, they have the good sense to form thier own opinions based not on the bigotry they are clearly being indoctrinated with, and renounce the teachings of thier parents. Sadly, I fear that this perversion of thier young minds will grow and leave us with another generation of intolerant zealots.

It's shameful to use your children in this manner.

I used to be a fan of "conversational intolerance," as Sam Harris puts it, but now I see it as an easy way out, a mental shortcut that some atheists use so that they can dismiss beliefs with one stroke and avoid the work of honestly trying to understand why people believe what they believe.

Sure, if you want you can trash religions and offer simplistic psychological accounts of why people hold on to what you call "superstitions," but in doing so you will only alienate intelligent and moderate believers and inflame the already massive egos and persecution complexes of the fundie preachers. Good work.
