Whispers Of The Heart is one of my all time favorites... you should watch The Cat Returns as well, it is about the little cat statue in that movie, but nothing really else is related.

yeah. all great movies. i love the ghibli stuff specifically for the drawing style. hate the sailormoon-kind of drawings.

but the thing that really shocked me about anime (ghibli in particular) is how profound the idea of the animation can go, how close to life things are depicted and how much emphasis is put on small details (like mimics, objects on tables, background objects, shadows). some of those animations have pretty much the same power and profoundness as, for instance, Forrest Gump or Bicentennial Man. And Grave of the Fireflies is .... well.... it makes you feel something special.. you can't put it in words.

Rave Master (aka Groove Adventure Rave) was kinda cool,
Shaman King
.Hack// (Sign, Roots, Twilight... etc.)
Claymore

I'm told Fate Stay Night is decent too. haven't seen the series yet.

Has nothing to do with Grave of the Fireflies, as I have never seen it.

Has more to do with the "profoundness" of Bicentennial Man and Forrest Gump.

Posted by lojack on Feb-04-2008 21:54:

Grave of the Fireflies was pretty good I think OHHH WAIT ! I am thinking about Night of the Galactic Railroad ... got them mixed up ... don't think I have seen Grave of the Fireflies

Posted by Halcyon+On+On on Feb-05-2008 07:33:

It's kind of a mindfuck, that's for sure. I liked the series a lot though.

Posted by camshaft on Feb-05-2008 08:52:

Berserk for sure. Ending blows, good thing the manga's around. That's been going for what, 20 years? Ridiculous.

Also, anything from Studio Ghibli, there's some Disney-like quality to all their releases I haven't found in anything else. Love all of em, but Nausicaa is at the top.
