I finally listened to the whole set and I liked it indeed. I do agree however with what others have said about it not really "picking up" or whatever. The energy level did seem a bit too flat throughout. But as always, I love your slecetion of more melodic tracks, and your mixing is still butter steez. Enjoyable set overall.

Thanks for giving it a listen m8 - I hope now that a few folks have noted that the pace of this set is more chill than anything else some people who've to listen to it go into it knowing it's not really a set designed to ever really "pick up."

Just groovy, hypnotic techno and house.

Just trying to find different kinds of music to listen to in the forum, and I must say that was the most boring set of tracks I have ever heard.

Must. Look. Elsewhere.

We're not all here to make the kids reach for the lasers, but thanks anyway for the constructive criticism.

Terrific, highly valuable criticism. You have a good night too.

Wanted to hear different genres
Picked out your set since it ran 3 pages (yeah, well)
Didn't like the songs at all. Clearly a good decision on my part to avoid such music all this while.

Mixing wise, I didn't notice any major errors or inconsistencies, and since I haven't heard too many sets of this kind, I would think my judgement of 'not going anywhere' may not be taken too seriously.

Criticism. Constructive or not.

Night

Even this is far better than "most boring set I've ever heard" - so thanks for clarifying.

True, and it's still enjoyable to listen to.

A friend who is overseas wanted a copy of the set divided into tracks, so here's a link to a *.zip with the mix divided into tracks with all relevant label information in the ID3 tags:

http://www.sendspace.com/file/st97i2

If anyone wants to host this somewhere permanently, that'd be great - otherwise just the Sendspace link for now.

Lol, no - not at the moment. We'll be back in March for a little over a week though. When we booked the trip to head back I got excited and threw the Dutch flag back in my profile for a bit.

And I'm not really Dutch, though my grandparents immigrated from the Netherlands in the early 1900's - so I grew up immersed in Dutch culture, and I guess sometimes feel more in touch with that part of my personality than anything American.

Men men, i listend tot his set the ENTIRE day at my work..

Fucking ace!

Ofcource after FC Kahuna the highlight of this set is the tune that comes in around 36 mins. Grooovy! The vox stabs are awesome same as the beat.

How do you find these tracks anyway? << Will buy turntables this summer. Producing music only isn't enough for me.

It's oke i am not Dutch from origin either, Born in Kuwait with Iraqi parents. Live here for 16 years though.

There is something about carrying the dutch pasport. It makes you feel more special haha, don't know how to describe it

Posted by RJT on Feb-04-2008 15:20:

Thanks for the kind words boss - that tune you like is actually the Jeroen Verheij/Joris Voorn tune, straight out of the Netherlands.

I guess there's no one answer to that, because record shopping is only a small portion of it. I'm fortunate to have a lot of people with good taste constantly turning me onto new artists and tracks, without whom I probably wouldn't even know about half the shit I like. Of course there's still the odd "big name" dj set I listen to where I find a bunch of tunes I like, but more than anything it's just being surrounded by folks with good taste.

this set makes me wanna get off my ass and make another promo mix.

Posted by Glaniskanis on Feb-07-2008 15:51:

Finally got round to fully listening this today and I liked it alot
I totally love the chillout vibe it gave me throughout and wasnt really bothered by some of the (late) mixes

Good stuff mate!!

Posted by djdk on Feb-07-2008 16:03:

I think I have to agree with others and say I didnt really feel it went anywhere. I really enjoyed pretty much all of the tracks but felt there werent any moments that made me sit up and pay attention I guess. Mixing was spot on, all the tracks were introduced nicely and all sat together really well.

When I do promo sets like this, I guess my goal is try not to sound like a lot of what else is being put out there at the moment - unfortunately a lot of times it can end up misfiring.

This is a philosophy I subscribe to as well, it is difficult and it doesnt always come off like you say, but i find it far more rewarding to do so. And i think this is perhaps the most important point, if you are enjoying what your playing then at some point things will click and you'll end up firing much more often than not and then you'll really stand out from the crowd (at least thats what I keep hoping will happen anyway )

Thanks for all the comments guys

Posted by montana on Feb-11-2008 21:08:

ok, finally got off my arse and had a listen to this. i like it, mixing is good (despite the two peter hook moments). but it doesn't have any perticular highpoints, well possibly the holden track but ye.

Posted by Stasis on Feb-11-2008 23:28:

Definitely agree with a previous poster.

Dammit RJT, you make me want to be a better bedroom DJ.

Posted by RJT on Feb-11-2008 23:33:

Much appreciated - but I have loads of bad nights/days as well. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it seems like everything just falls apart.

Thanks for the listen.

Posted by nrjizer on Feb-11-2008 23:50:

I liked this one a lot, Rob. I wasn't crazy about the vocals in the first tune, but that's just me of course. After that it was solid as usual.

Ooh this looks interesting... downloading now
