In the end, what you say is an extension of your thoughts and who you are. It's tough to fake a different personality.

I've met alot of people from TA, and always found that their online persona an accurate measure of who they are in real life. People who are considerate and respectful in their posts are also in real life. People who are rude are also obnious and so on.

lol, isn't it interesting how some people have to work a year just to be slightly noticed to even make the connection when you meet them out, and there are people that join and within a day are very much on the radar.

I think Slingshot's still looking for me

Posted by Irishaddict on Feb-03-2008 21:38:

i would honestly be interested in knowing the differing perceptions of people based on board vs. real life

i for one have no idea if people think im different? i think i know the majority of people in person so i don't even stop to think how i come across on here.

there is social politics though, that's for sure

Posted by StereoPrincess on Feb-03-2008 21:50:

yeah, laura. i would be interested too.

also has this ever happened to anyone:

you meet a person for the first time IRL and they tell you how they remember that post you made in that thread and it was so funny/mean/good/interesting (pick anyone of those) and it was something you hardly remember posting? which is funny because it totally proves that people judge you by what you write on here.

Posted by jon jon on Feb-03-2008 21:54:

hahah I made lisa loo cry remember! I didn't even remember the thread let alone post! LOL

lisa loo let's get married

I have good memory so it doesn't happen to me, but I met a few TAs and would bring up their post and they wouldn't remember it lol.

One drama or what not was when I met Skillton at Guv, I was on the patio, he came up to me and was like hey I know you, I was like lol it's you, so are you gonna TRY to kick my ass? (Cause he was talking trash before saying that I look like a rich queer something like that) And he just stood there..

UGH! Too often! People quote me shit I've said MONTHS ago, and I forget what I posted after a week, lol. Not to mention that I never know what to reply when someone makes that comment, cause that discussion has long been put to rest. "Uhhh yay me?"

People who meet me for the first time in real life usually say, "Oh. I thought you were a total asshole!" just because of some of the things I say on here. You honestly can't judge someone's personality until you have spent a bit of time getting to know them in person.

Cause we all know that saying stuff behind a computer screen DOES NOT add to the confidence factor.

there are some notable exceptions (you, dima/cosmic fur, vivid, the biggest pussy of them all) but for the most part, your online persona, especially over time, becomes a quite accurate representation of who you are as a person. that being said, there has only been a handful of TAs that i actively would not want to have anything to do with in real life....some wankerdom can't be faked over the internet

Posted by The Highroller on Feb-03-2008 23:56:

I know I've said it time and time again, but based on some of the replies in this thread, it's worth saying again. If you act like a jackass on the internet, you can't use cop outs such as "it's just the internet" or "you take the internet too seriously". The internet is a means of communication. If I called someone up on the phone and acted like a jackass, "it's just the phone" would not be a valid excuse. I don't see why "it's just the internet" should be.

This is my reasoning for judging people based on what they post here. There are a couple of members on this board that continuously try to piss people and incite arguments for their own entertainment. I judge these people as not worth meeting, much less getting to know. I don't really care what they're like in person.

i think people just don't take you seriously which is a judgement in itself. people judge you as a person that can't be taken seriously. basically, just laughing you off. and that's what you want so it's a win-win for everybody.
