Yes, Lee Burridge was once a trance dj. |
I knew about the trance, never heard him(or read about him)talk about playing prog though.
edit: and what Pete said...don't forget the breaks!
Here you go:
http://www.residentadvisor.net/feature-read.aspx?id=794
"Release a couple of albums on Global Underground and everyone thinks youre Mr. Prog House, but Lee Burridge has never been a progressive DJ in his life."
And I personally can't recall ever hearing any prog in any of his compilations, and I've heard them all.

OMG dude, he was playing breaks before Sasha. And "progressive breaks" is not the same as progressive.

LoL. Progressive BREAKS dude...different than plain old prog. Nice try though.
Anyways, I don't wanna turn this into an MD dweeb session. Just wanted to say that Lee was never a prog DJ. If you've ever listened to any of his compilations, it would be pretty obvious.
Posted by elFreak on Mar-05-2008 01:47:
just ask him.
that hack tiesto never put out a gabba compilation, but he played it.
Posted by Silky Johnson on Mar-05-2008 01:49:
Haha, whatever Jay. For a Lee fan, you have no idea what you're talking about.
Don't worry, I'll be sure to ask him.
Posted by elFreak on Mar-05-2008 01:50:
let me know so i can say, "i told you so"
Posted by Silky Johnson on Mar-05-2008 01:51:
Yep, sure.

whatever makes you sleep at night...but until you ask him you are still wrong.

I considered Lee a prog DJ when I first heard him in the early 00's. He wasn't playing techno, or house or trance. He was playing that boring plodding shit characteristic of breathe fridays at system soundbar - didn't they book him a few times, actually?
In any case, I heard a lot of proggy dark minimal on friday, which was surprising.

whatever the case may be his set at tribe rocked the shit out of the set at stereo (the little i saw anyways...)
i think lee does better when he's right in there with the crowd, not from above

I will agree with you there Greg. Part of Lee's charm is his stage presence. Not in the posing trance dj way, but in the way that he makes everyone on the dancefloor feel like he is playing for them. He has a great rapport with the people and his madman antics are always fun. (the fucking faces he makes are enough to make anyone shit their pants with laughter.) I don't know many Dj's that would keep playing in a club sealed off because of a murder that occured in it. Nutjobs rock.
ps Peter, prog breaks arent the exact same as prog (fuck i miss prog breaks), but when Sasha was playing almost exclusively this style back in the day, would you call him a breaks dj? He should tag with Dj Icey
