Seriously Laser, shut the fuck up.

They could have a pre-mixed CD playing at one of these "Tiesto in Concert" things, with big screens featuring Tiesto shitting on a glass table while his gf lies underneath watching, and everyone would STILL go and pay $100+ and then come and post on here about how it was the most memorable experience of their lives.

I'll let you in on a little secret:

It's quite possible to like trance without liking what one DJ plays.

Yeah it's just like how McFly are the most influential band on the UK rock scene...

Tiesto is alright. I think he used to be better, and I think too much emphasis is placed on him being who he is. It seems like more attention is placed on making a show grandiose, than it is on just having a great set at a great venue.

That being said, there is a place for him and his type of show. And if it causes a few more people to realize what else EDM has to offer, then fine.

not commenting on his technical skills or his own productions, but the tracks he plays in his radio show and his last two isos cd have been really good. so compared to that, armin, ferry and co are a lot more commercial than tiesto. don't know what kinda stuff he plays in his live gigs though (probably his own tracks mostly).

so i don't know if he even plays that much regular trance anymore?

what i hate about tiesto is most of his ignorant fans though, who probably think tiesto wrote all these songs he plays (when in fact he's not even written all of his own songs) and is making the sounds live in his gigs.
at what point did playing other people's records make you a god.

and the fees he gets from his gigs is just ridiculous. but then again who wouldn't take all the money if someone would be willing to pay it.

I think the only area in which Tiesto has been influential in EDM over the last couple years is marketing and self-promotion. Certainly not in musical influence. Maybe we can credit him to attracting more noobs to the scene as well, but then again the same can be said of DJ Sammy, etc.

Posted by maddraver on Feb-27-2008 17:53:

laser, the only influence tiesto has had on me is to make me dislike the genre of trance.
anyone that has been in the dance scene for longer than three years know that tiesto is a joke.
those polls mean absolutely nothing, so who gives a fuck if hes always in the top five.
the guys music sucks, not to mention his talent!

i bet you never heard of james zabiela have you?

tiesto still very much plays the euphoric trance in his sets and its not always the 'tiesto' productions that get played either, and we all know that most of the tracks aren't written by the man himself, the arguement is tiesto as a dj, the majority seem to hate him and until i get a sensible answers as to why then most of you lot are clueless ******s! any way ive had enough of chatting in this thread with you lot , so bitch about tiesto all you want

Here's a sensible answer: Tiesto is not a very good DJ. No, don't dispute this. His skills are pedestrian, his ideas are uninteresting, and his track selection is not very well-rounded. He is a simple, one-dimensional, ABC DJ who just plays songs back-to-back. On the DJ pantheon, he is about one notch above the mobile DJ at the last wedding you attended.

If you think he is a good DJ, then you know very little about DJing, and even less about music.

The reason why people hate Tiesto is because, as a bad DJ, he is very good at marketing the illusion that he is a good DJ to ignorant people who don't know any better, like you.

And that makes the rest of us sad. Because you're actually stupid enough to fall for his bullshit.

We want you to stop being stupid, and start liking good music.

The end.

Tiesto is always trying to distract his fans with fireworks, jumps etc then they're not able to realize if he's good DJing.

Tiesto is all about :

Why does that remind me of Emperor Palpatine, all of a sudden?

that is a great answer, the guy don't realize we are trying to help him because we care about our fellow t.a.'s!

and like the other guy says, fireworks and all that other shit don;t make him a good dj.

I MUCH rather listen to Tiesto than James Zabiela. He was playing after Deadmau5 last Saturday and I was literally falling asleep to that monotoned crap he was spinning,

Posted by isoterra on Feb-27-2008 19:39:

i'll be seeing him this weekend, in a small ~2000 capacity venue alongside other DJs.. the way it should be. i'll reserve any comments until after that night as i haven't heard a proper set from him in ages

Depends what scene you're talking about.

For Stadium trance, he's definitely a pioneer.

Outside of that...pretty much fuck all influence on anything.

Yeah, like when he plays a song, and then he plays another song right after it, and then when he jumps up and down while the pre-recorded song is playing...yeah, that's awesome. No one else can do that.

Metaphorically speaking, you are idolizing someone for their fucking air guitar skills. Grow a fucking brain.

I am merely reporting what I saw on Saturday. It hardly makes me a "fanboy" as some of you will call me for actulaly just being there having a good time.

Tiesto isnt a technically gifted dj. But the bottom line is he can get a very large group of people dancing to trance tunes. Where is the harm in that when as I have said in that sort of arena hes the very best at it?

Grow a brain? Well thanks very much im perfectly happy being blissfully unaware of your superior intellect. You sayw you are trying to educate people about EDM. Tbh you just come across as an arrogant condecending ****.

Posted by miamitranceman on Feb-27-2008 21:13:

I really like his radio show. There's a lot of good fusion of different genres. TBH, I'm sick of ASOT type stuff.

The price to see him live down here is extortionate though. People pay it though so who can blame him?

Hate him?...nah.
