I could go on...

Anyway, too bad that you seem to care more about the crystal clear production than the actual music. There's so much of that attitude these days, especially in trance, and it's also one of the reasons why a lot of music is boring.

It's ranked higher than Radiohead

So true.

And furthermore there are many producers working with simple computer-based setups whose productions sound great. Equipment worth thousands of dollars is absolutely not useless, but it is by no means essential either.

With vocals added it becomes even more difficult. Name me one recent hit which just was made with Cubase or Cakewalk. I agree some people make nice tunes with there pc, but at the end you can hear the difference. Many of those tracks are being remastered before they get released.

well i for one wouldn't give a shit if roland disappeared.

but as far as what's made with just software and your other argument that you can't make decent music without expensive gear:

gear used:
ableton live 6
reaktor
max/msp
cubase
audiomulch

all software.

I'd recommend checking into psy and breaks and the progressive styles of both genres.

im a big trance and hardrock/nu metal fan and i personally love the trance thats coming out now a days and the hard rock scene is good too, alot of good bands, alot of good music.

im not a hip hop/rap fan, but i must say its the worst scene, everything is commercialized and cheesy

Irony is fucking hilarious.

to all those that have had their tastes change...

do you have moments when you think to yourselves...i always thought those "elitists" were just haters, but shit...they were actually right!

Posted by Dj EntycE on Mar-11-2008 01:51:

Because there is so many songs getting played out that everything seems blend, always the same structures, etc. Someone who's into a certain kind of music but only knows let's say 10% of the songs most of us know as trance listeners, that person would enjoy each songs he knows a lot more.

Stop downloading and listening to music for days, and it gets nice back again.

The man has a point.

A parallel to the point is genre-decentralization. Some people should really start listening to 'other' music and explore more. Listen to classic rock, metal, classical, soundtracks, jazz, ambient, world music... gain a stronger and more well-rounded perspective of music as a whole.

The merits that I like about trance either become more focused or watered down as a result. You learn to live with the downsides and focus on the merits. You know what you want out of music and can understand your own self better because of it. Then you can stop bashing other people, because you know for yourself the depth of exploration music is and is not. Live and learn... art is art and I, for one, gotta stop taking it so seriously in the wrong context.

Thats really funny considering that for the most part, you engage in the same tactics.

a rhetorical question, but now more than ever, for me to make a cd of 16 tracks, i'm literally going through hundreds of songs (if half of them can even be called a song) it doesn't even matter what edm genre anymore. Everyone has figured its cool to go for a 'harder' sound, and although i like the harder sound when done properly and with a purpose, so many 'producers' are just shooting out shit with garbage that doesn't resolve to any sort of purpose, no energy from a strong breakdown/buildup, a monotunos line that can literally stretch the whole song, or 1:30 in some cases with literally no harmonic or rhythmic change. (not even a bloody hi-hat to at least make it different!) seriously, i can make a shit hook and loop it for 5mins too.

This is more of a rant then a question. I've always enjoyed the process of obtaining new music on beatport, but wow does most of it suck balls. No wonder i'm not excited to go to as many shows these days when many djs resort to playing this bullshit.

stfu mr old skool

Talking shit about what other people like. Calling people idiots for enjoying/buying heater.

Everyone does it!

So I can only not be a hater when I like everything?
I'll try to work on that, but tracks like Heater and Armin's new one (Going wrong) make that task really difficult.

Look, I'm just saying, don't act like you're above shit talking and hating. Everyone does it, and as I've said before, I'm a proud "elitist" and "hater". I love having strong opinions, and generally, I like other people who have them as well, including your insinuation that anyone can make minimal by dropping a cat on a keyboard.

From what I've seen on TA, calling someone an elitist is a convenient way of saying "you hurt my feelings when you say you don't like what I like". A lot of people seem to need validation for their tastes, which I think is too bad.

I wasn't talking about people expressing strong opinions, I have no problem with that. What really pisses me off is something like "My taste in music is more advanced / sophisticated / better than yours. You must start listening to xxx, and hopefully soon you'll understand that yyy is complete shit." People should accept other opinions as equal to their own, not something inferior.

Isn't that the same as saying anyone who purchased Samim - Heater is an idiot? And I get what your saying and agree to a certain extent, but you have to draw a line somewhere. Otherwise happy hardcore is just as sophisticated as a Mathew Jonson tune?

You mean there's no synth in it? Indeed, but this track still wasn't made just with a pc, not in 1994.

I loved the Trance back then, but for me it all started with Synthesizer Greatest, J.M. Jarre, Vangelis etc. That's why I like crystal clear trance made by e.g. BT and Chicane and many many more.

Everybody his own taste I would say.

I still don't like rap, nothing changed, to me it even sounds 15 years old. This song only ends my listening to rap for today, lets listen some trance again and continue.....
