I'm into the hard bangin stuff as well...

Techno is supposed to drive you into a frenzy not put you to sleep..

Now that being said, there are a coupla tracks i can listen to and enjoy...

Now we have Addy here whos bridged the gap by playing minimal at 130 and up...

The speed makes it pound and therefor he's the only DJ I can listen to minimal with...

This 126 bullshit is like elevator music...or good to drive to...keeps me from speeding...

God remember Carl Cox up till last year...man he would kill me...

Lol

Where do you see bullshit in playing 126 nooblar ?

Shipping to Canada is a pain in the ass and unfortunately most people dont even use vinyl anymore here. If the song does eventually get released digitally it probably will not be on Beatport which means no fukin chance of ever being played in Montreal. Over here most of our Djs are playing the top 100 list on beatport in different orders. No wonder all the good guys from Montreal are leaving! They put so much effort into there music but the guys who play the top 100 list on beatport get more recognition.

By the way I like Eric Prydz, he used to be my favorite producer a few years back. He created a new sound that was amazing but he is just abusing it now. It probably takes him less than a day to make his songs now. They are still good because he has mastered his own sound which is fine with me. I just don't understand why people have to always focus on one guy so much. Also I noticed you insult techno but did you know that the song good life that eric prydz remixed was produced by one of the biggest techno pioneers in the world.

You also stated what is one part of the problem. There is a big fraction of the population who go out to a club and are very happy to hear "their" track played. That track can be in a 80's club, a reggaeton club, or, for this forum, an EDM oriented club. Now there is also a small fraction of people (more or less us guys) who actually want to go out and discover new stuff. I personnally dont care that much that I dont know 90% of the tracks played. If thoses tracks amaze me, I'm happ.

There is always a shift between those two groups. It's a cultural thing, what people expect from art and music.

1- Minimal techno is not at all a contradiction in terms. Minimalism is a concept in art which can be applied to anything. There is minimal architecture, minimal conceptual art, minimal visual art, minimal writing, minimalistic furniture, minimalistic way of life.

So minimalism can also be applied to techno. The stripped-down, rythm-oriented, drums used as melodies parts of techno. MINIMALISM HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH TEMPO. Minimal techno can be 50 BPM or 1000 BPM. Although in the recent years, there has been a shift, and many techno DJs have slowed down their tempos (that is called a trend)

2- Music is not "supposed to drive you into a frenzy", it is "supposed" to do anything. You do with music what you want to do with it.

3- It is very difficult to discuss tastes. You have your own, stating you are "into banging techno". Fine. However, what is discussable is the music itself, and please educate yourself before posting

You missunderstand what I'm saying...

Techno to me is complicated fast music with lots of layers...

When you "minimalize" it, it loses its complexity which is what I love...

And like I said in my post...When minimal is played fast, it actually starts to sounds a little better...

You're absolutely right...It is a total question of preference...

I just don't understand how ppl can go from bangin music down to simple and slow in a matter of 2 years...

They mature and get to a level where they feel like moving on

Playing 140 bpm is fun when youre funked on speed and shit... but thats about it

He wasn't making a reference to the date, but rather your narrow-mindness.

Youre a noob for writing comments like boooooring

We can all agree that Laurent Garnier for exemple... is a master of techno music and all the genres surrounding it

You see him play over 130 all the time ?

No

The guy takes you on a trip and goes sometimes very very slow

It's all about taste and what youre looking for in music...

You obviously are looking for something fast... hard... etc

What's maturity got to do with it...

If a 19 year old goes into a minimal set for the first time, he's gonna think minimal is the shit because it's whats on...

He will have not have know the past of the scene and how the music was a coupla years ago...

And I don't like to hear everything at 140....trance yes...house no...techno...prolly 135 max...

But 126...cmon man....so boring...

Oh, I understand what you mean. It is also a common mistake to think that more sounds (or layers, as you say) actually means more complexity.

I am not saying you are wrong and I am right, don't worry.

But minimalism is a concept that is hard to understand, some people understand it and simply don't like it, and some people simply never understand it

The concept of "less is more" is hard to grasp. Maybe someday you will learn to appreciate the music and understand that less sounds can actually mean more complex music

In the meantime, keep supporting your scene

Buddy, Spears is on a totally different scale. That's America projecting
the standards they want the world to have through their brainwashing
media. That's the problem I don't think a music scene in which most of
the fans can't accurately match a face to a song is next to comparable.
Anyways
You don't seem to know what rave.ca is about whatsoever
I'll spare myself the time, go check it out
Piknic electronik is posting there
Stereo is posting there
Tribe is posting there
and everything else people don't hear of.
So HHC trance anthems seems pretty specific to me
Have you had a bad experience there julien?

And Dj Nacht people love the stuff you listen to. I love the stuff you
listen to. We ALL love the stuff you listen to. But we got preferences, and when Carl Cox throws "Columbian Soul" at Stereo, minds get lost.
Let's get specific, what genre of music are you talking about?
Cause I like the edm one can only find produced in the Amazonian Forest.
hahahaa

Rave.ca is a lot more user-based. Most calendar events are added by individuals, except for Piknic (you are right about them).

But if you actually check the attendance there, stereo events, tribe events have 1 or 2 attendees, whereas the HC events have dozens of them.

Whatever doc you're just arguing for the sake of arguing

Posted by Dj Nacht on Mar-30-2008 18:43:

Fullhouse im talking about progressive, minimal, techno, electro any genre of electronic music. I prefer to not become overly focused on specific Djs, producers and songs because ill miss out on all the new shit thats happening every day.

Posted by fullhouse on Mar-30-2008 18:55:

Well man, if that's what you can't find in Montreal, I wonder how you
find your bathroom in the morning.

You missed the point of my posts. I like new stuff and not the shit thats being used and abused by every dj in montreal. I have to say though that im more techno influenced and nobody is playing that in Montreal. Im not talking about pure banging techno either.

ritchie hawtin - decks, efx & 909 = ritchie hawtin before final scratch & sven vath!!

Posted by sonofbigboss on Apr-02-2008 16:25:

Really nice to see many of you here still remember and miss the sound and energy of something that was once commonplace in Montreal.

This coming May will see a modest return of techno to the afterhours scene. Will post more details soon.
