it more or less is like slapping a band aid on it. if it was going to be done properly, they would've taken the time to do the mezzanine level as well.

now what you have is a mismatch between the upper level and the platform.

not to mention the stupid new signs that they put up which aren't even the same standard that they've been using since the sheppard line opened.

the other thing is that they will be making a 2nd entrance to the station on the south side where the "jail" is. they will also install an elevator to make it accessible. so why not actually do that first and then pretty it up when all the construction will be done?

it's unfortunate that we're going to be losing a lot of these stations and getting these faux designs instead.

+ 1 on them botching the ceiling, that would have been so much nicer

Yes it looks nice but you know what ....... There are other issues that need 5 million or more dollars.....Like subway line expansion beyond kipling to somewhere in mississauga or surrounding areas,or even having mississauga or brampton area buses to come more frequently just like any TTC buses.....Average wait time for sauga or brampton buses could vary from 45-60 minutes between buses.

I totally agree with you, imagine how much more commuters would take the subway to Toronto from Mississauga if there's a connection. It would definitely help with traffic.

Posted by smuncky on Apr-09-2008 18:53:

5 million wouldn't even get a shovel into the ground for a subway. especially to Mississauga.

I know thats why I mentioned the part about atleast having the Brampton transit or Mississauga transit buses run 5 to 15 minutes apart rather than having 45-60 minutes wait time between buses.

That's true but if Mel Lastman didn't push to make that Sheppard line and invested it towards a Mississauga subway it would've been a lot better.

Sheppard line cost a bit over 1 Billion dollar for 5 KM of subway.
Kipling Station to Square one is 12 KM (on street, it would be less if it was a direct line) so it would take about 2.5 billion dollars to make a Toronto/Mississauga line based on those numbers. that Sheppard line would've been almost half the cost to make that line. I'm pretty sure the Ontario government would help pay for this, and the cost would've been split between the two cities. So Toronto would've already paid their share if that stupid Sheppard line wasn't built.

Also apparently it was proposed before, but Hazel McCallion didn't like Mel Lastman, just a rumour I heard. :S

BUT, considering all the complaining the city and TTC have been doing about not having enough money... was it REALLY necessary to spend $5,000,000.00 on sprusing up one of the less busy stations in the city?

im wondering who the contractor is friends with and/or who really benefitted from this suspicious project?

the amount of politics involved in the construction industry is ridiculous at every stage

I say over 70% of the cost went into the contractor's pocket.

lol yes.. somewhere along that line. I'm certain any reputable design/architecture firm in Toronto wouldn't have done such a half ass job on it

wow! not anymore I guess? Having worked at a few firms, I know you could achieve a lot with 5 million. D&S built the Four Seasons Center for Performing Arts for 35 million, and the scale of that project is nothing compared to this one... so its a bit of a disappointment in terms of what they achieved with the 5 million here

but then again, we all know that any ttc project is inflated. doesn't matter what it is.

you don't care that the city pays for decorative pillars.. but you care about a public service? blah.

i never said i was against the TTC running late, its a good idea for the city.....its a stupid idea if the sole intention is for ppl who are too drunk to drive, to use TTC instead. ppl should be more responsible when drinking so they dont have to use the TTC at all, but its their if they do need to use it.

so looks like ur the idiot big mouth
