Count me in as part of your mob.

Hell, I'd love to see them break the union completely by firing their worthless asses, all of them, and them hiring them back one by one. Now there's a transit disruption that I'd get onside with. Anything to end these pigs constant strangle hold on the public. I personally know a TTC driver who doesn't work more than 2 months out of the year & then uses up sick days and vacation days for pay, gets fired, gets in the union involved, gets re-hired, and continues to collect his paycheque. He generally repeats this cycle every year!

Any other job & he'd be unemployed in a heartbeat.

Enough is enough already.

yep, i already got my arrangements for alternate transportation pretty much made. Its funny how there's quite a number of Ryerson students who think our exam dates will be shifted because of the strike. even after sending us two emails that they'll continue as scheduled.

Unions = Bad News

u sound pissed just b/c u ride the TTC. everyone deservers a good living wage, we need unions to stand up for workers rights. they are not demanding outrageous demands. they are going on strike b/c the city refuses to pay workers when they need to take time off due to on the job injuries like ******s causing shit on buses and stabbing a driver.

they should go on strike to get their point across. the city needs to stop dicking around and give them what they want, if u cant afford it, find a way, stop wasting our hard earned tax money on stupid shit and maybe the city wouldnt be so broke, stop giving urselves a raise.

if u have a problem with this, then stand up for the workers and the union and if the ppl are on their side, the city will cave.

is everyday opposite day for you?

omg australiangq stfu!

where's that news story about a TTC member who is getting 75% of her wage paid since her 2005 "injury"?!

Posted by Stilez on Apr-18-2008 03:00:

Unions had their time...and served their purpose. That time has now come and gone. Nowadays, unions are a negative force where it once used to be a positive one.

What gets to me most is that there are some hard working TTC workers who deserve all the benefits that they are fighting for, but then there are a ton of other pieces of $#%% that not only give them a bad name, but take advantage of everything that their fighting for.

Either way, I live downtown and am lucky that I can walk to and from work. Sure it's inconvenient, but this may end up being a blessing in disguise for me...since it might be the start of a new workout regime

I'm lucky in that my company allows us access to work remotely (from home) - and I could pretty much do all my job tasks from home on a permanent basis. But on the other hand, I don't know how this would impact our home Internet bandwidth

exactly. If they have even a million to contribute to a "renovation" project than they have no reason for the TTC workers to strike with that kind of money.

Dude, you live in Caledon - what the fuck do you know?

Do you ride the TTC to get to work? No. Do you have to put up with service delays, crumbling infastructure and overcrowding on a daily basis? No. Did you get screwed over by the last strike? No.

It's all well and good to be lobbying for better compensation for lost time and injuries, but what does inconveniencing the public at large have to do with it? Why do I need to be made a pawn in some pissing contest between the TTC and the unions?

I know you probably relish your little jaunts downtown to buy jeans at Garage in the Eaton Centre, but for those of us who rely on effective transit so we can get to work (to pay taxes that fund the TTC), this is just another in the long series of ways in which the comission screws us over.

I'm 100% for privatization of the TTC. What's the worst that happens, 3 fare hikes in 4 years...wait - already done. Um, overpaid workers...wait - got that, too. Political interference in transit policy and operations....check.

I'm not always a fan of privatization, because of the negative effects it could have on service. But when you put it this way, I think you maybe right. What is the worst that could happen? There is no way the TTC could get worse!

Careful.

If one of those bumpkins could actually read, well, they might take that as a challenge.

Yesterday for example going home from work. I put in 2.75 in change, quarters, dimes and nickels. This b*** inside the booth tells me "hey that wasn't 2.75 you put in, I can see you know"

So I replied, "You might want to get your eye sight checked, those glasses might be the wrong prescription for you, count it again if you want" and I just continued walking...

Weird... TTC is 3.00 now

Well I guess I'll throw my 2 cents in...Some of you know that I'm a Coach Technician repairing/maintaining the TTC buses at the HILLCREST complex( the old GMs are the best buses ever built and the new HYBRIDS are JUNK )...I applied several times over a couple of years before I finally got the call in 1995 that I was going to be hired. Before that I worked at car dealerships and stressed as hell .RIght now I make $32.45/hr and is the average wage in what you may find at various garages or truck garages ( I have my S and T licenses)..ANyway Its somewhat true that back then there was one TTC staff in charge of hiring who was taking bribes but he is long gone...Today I don't think its like that anymore and that the TTC is hiring for various positions according to skills, etc...

I will say this though....you couldn't PAY me enough to drive a bus in Toronto and deal with the assaults. It happens EVERY day in various degrees...I agree that there are some drivers that are assholes and shouldn't even work at the TTC including guys I work with in the maintenance dept...I get REALLY pissed when they complain about the dumbest things while my friends whould DIE having a well paying job washing parts, etc...I would also NOT like to drive a subway because its BOOOOORING work and have to deal with "jumpers"( that happens more often then you think but is not reported for obvious reasons)

Bottom line is that the drivers outnumber maintenance like 5 to 1 and so we don't have a choice because we are all in the same union and have to go with the flow..

I prefer to just do my job and do it well and not get injured in the process

SHOULD THE TTC BE AN ESSENTIAL service?...I just wonder why it hasn't been done YEARS ago...the only thing I can think of as to why its not is because of costs...I'm not an economist so maybe you guys have a better answer ( Maybe Jay has the answer? )

please explain because i dont understand your use of terminology. In my opinion if the TTC has money for the museum station renovation, even if it's some, they should be using that money to increase service quality not on that stations aesthetics
