You are basically saying that I can't possibly be intelligent about the issue unless I believe your side of things. Thank you for proving my point. I'm telling you that I have the opinions/beliefs I do BECAUSE I've read and studied both sides. You are being pushed in the direction you are because of political bullshit, and the super slanted agenda driven liberal media... so that is what you are reading and researching. I don't blindly believe what people tell me to believe, I look at both sides, then come up with a reasonable idea. After you read the book I suggested, and get at least an idea about the side you aren't even willing to listen to, then you can comment on who is ignorant. Until then, take it easy with the personal attacks man... I never tried to make this personal on anyone. Jesus |

So what if we have doubled the amount of carbon dioxide we've put into the air in 25 years? it used to be 16 out of every 100,000 molecules in the air were CO2, and now it's 32 out of every 100,000... if you look at the context of that, you'll see it makes no difference.

I'm not saying pollution doesn't exist, I'm saying it's not the fucking dire emergency that people make it out to be.

but the fact is that for at least 15 or 20 years, oil is the engine that drives the economy, and there is nothing even remotely close to replacing it.
pkcRAISTLIN- shut the fuck up. In the context of the american media, the world "liberal" has a meaning different than whatever you look up in the dictionary. What the hell you do know? Unreal.
For the other guy... Wikipidia is the end all be all of fact? Oh shit... ok. I can provide plenty of examples of FACTUAL information that shoot plenty of holes in the THEORY you are buying into. You're looking at trees, not the forest man. The earth warms up, it cools... ocean temps go through cycles, etc. There was a global cooling scare in the 1970's, and through the natural up and down cycle, it changes. Check out these links and read the recent articles. Earth actually in a cooling cycle since 2003... probably headed for 10 years of cooling (information from NASA, not from me. But if it's not being fed to you by the New York Times or NBC, you probably won't put any credence into it.

I read your post again... dude I'm not denying that pollution is happening. I'm saying that it's not do or die time for us, and there's nothing wrong with pumping out that oil while we continue to search other sources. We produce. According to the US Dept. of Energy, US oil production has fallen 40% since 1985 while consumption's grown more than 30%. In real barrels, US oil production is now below five million barrels a day. It was approximately nine million barrels a day in 1985. So our production has been cut in half in 20 years.
I'm all about innovation man, and all for the private sector doing what they do best in creating better and more evolved standards of living however necessary. But as a capitalist economy needs growth, we can't just bleed dry the production of oil now when we need it. we need more supply that we have, so let's get it
pkcRAISTLIN
I'm not twisting anything, asshole. Can you read? I'm talking about the word in the context of what I'm referring to. I'm not changing meanings... and am I supposed to be offended by being called a Yank? lol. Know your place, Australian.

I'm slightly concerned about the human impact... but not to where it's impacting my life in any way or causing me to loose sleep, and I don't think I should feel guilty about that. I have bigger fish to fry in regular day to day life. I'm telling you man, I read a lot.... Maybe it is because of what I read vs. what you read that puts our level of concern in different places. I totally understand what you are saying, and I'm not a hater for those who want to change things for the better... There are things on both sides of this argument that could be done now to help make things better, but aren't, and that's what drives me crazy.
For the Aussie... I understand how a democracy works. I'm done with you

Well, that's still an opinion... I respect your opinion on that point, and I hope you respect me having my own too. We'll have to agree to disagree I guess. At least we finally got to the point of civil discourse right? Can't believe someone told me they wanted me to die of AIDS of cancer earler....lol. going to bed over here man, take it easy

You only say that because you know we'll never meet in person... classic line from a coward.
Denialism: the employment of rhetorical tactics to give the appearance of argument or legitimate debate, when in actuality there is none. These false arguments are used when one has few or no facts to support one's viewpoint against a scientific consensus or against overwhelming evidence to the contrary. They are effective in distracting from actual useful debate using emotionally appealing, but ultimately empty and illogical assertions.
Examples of common topics in which Denialists employ their tactics include: Creationism/Intelligent Design, Global Warming Denialism, Holocaust Denial, HIV/AIDS Denialism, 9/11 conspiracies, tobacco carcinogenecity denialism (the first organized corporate campaign), anti-vaccination/mercury autism denialism and anti-animal testing/animal rights extremist denialism. Denialism spans the ideological spectrum, and is about tactics rather than politics or partisanship.
We believe there are five simple guidelines for identifying denialist arguments. Most denialist arguments will incorporate more than one of the following tactics: Conspiracy, Selectivity, False Experts, Impossible Expectations/Moving Goalposts, and Argument from Metaphor/violations of informal logic.

Global warming or not the fact remains that we are ruining the planet for the future generation. The earth is simply running out natural resources as simple as clean water and clean air aka the essentials of life.

Originally posted by Fledz Oh Jesus.....you didn't just compare what happened over 100million year periods to something which has happened in less than 50 years did you? The fact that it provides no sort of scale whatsoever as well doesn't help you much either. Global warming is a natural occurrence. Cycles happen, they absolutely do but over a MUCH longer period of time. The way we are impacting the environment is that we're accelerating the natural cycles to unsustainable levels. Oh my lord, I don't know where to begin.... As for that muppet alt up there, he's a total lost cause.
