If there was a way to extend the format compatibility with the touch/iphone, it would be much better. I have a multitude of formats, and I refuse to transcode them. This results in a loss of quality, something of which I am unable to deal with.

I just bought a Creative Zen, and I love it.

I will never let iTunes step binary onto my computer.

Ipod. I've had my 30Gb for about 3 1/2 years with no problems. I listen to it when I work out and I also have it hooked up to my car stereo.

My friend had a Zune and he liked it until it crapped on him. He went with an ipod nano & has been content since. Another friend has the itouch but yeah, that is too pricey. The only regret he has is he should've gotten the classic with more memory. LOL But, hes happy with it.

Not everyone can be happy.

I had a creative nomad jukebox...yes, this giant thing.

it was awesome for its time. I think I paid $400 or $500 for it.
but seriously...6gb of storage in 2001 was pretty badass, even though it was heavy as a brick and had the worst equalizer ever, EAX.

then got a 128mb muvo, which was the best $60 I've ever spent on ebay. That thing lasted forever, had insane battery life (I'm talking 2 weeks on a single aaa...with heavy use), and weighed nothing.

finally, picked up a zen micro. really slick player, pretty good sound quality. looked, felt, & sounded great, but the keypad still kinda sucked, at least compared to the black-and-white, heavy, giant, mac-only, failure-of-backlight 'ipod' that was out then.

that said, fuck creative labs. their drivers suck, their products are made poorly, their drivers suck, and their drivers suck. never again.

im not sure if i can take you seriously....drivers arent required for mp3 players.

Posted by shaw on May-14-2008 05:06:

anymore.

yeah they aren't, but apparently Creative thought otherwise. They made you install all this bloatware on your pc just to be able to get songs onto your DAP. The Jukebox "driver" is still around, last time I checked. But, I know they're not alone in this sense. Microsoft made you do all sorts of crap before you could do anything productive with your Zune, to name just one other example.

They are aesthetically pleasing, they are pleasantly easy to use. Their scroll/click wheels is probably the most innovative design I have yet to see on an mp3 player. Since when is aesthetics a bad reason to buy something? You haven't said anything TRULY negative about the ipod aside from its highly commercialized. boo hoo. The only product i've seen come close is iAudio, and thats because their sound quality shits on the ipod and their interface is pretty good too.

iTunes isn't a bad music client either - granted, i dont like the fact that ipods will not sync with anything else easily, but I really don't see what the big deal is. windows media player is any better? winamp was great back in its prime now I'm not so sure.

buying an ipod because its trendy isn't any better than not buying an ipod because its trendy. Either way you're making a fashion statement if trends is the best reason you've got to buy or not buy an mp3 player.

hard drive can crash in ANY mp3 player - the hard drives are made by either toshiba or samsung. They have moving parts. ipod hard drives aren't any better or worse situation for failure than any other hard drive-based mp3 player.

good point. still not a fan of ipods though, for mainly 2 other reasons - no custom fully adjustable EQ (among other SFX options) and having to use itunes.

lol I said that because you have a MASSIVE host of other applications you can use if you aren't on a mac. Assuming you aren't you have winamp and songbird to name 2. Tons of other applications out there, you just have to look.

you mean sync an ipod to winamp? I think I tried that once. and failed. that MLipod or whatever is basically a beta phase testing ground, prone to crashing and other oddities. This was 2-3 years ago. I don't doubt it's progressed since then. But, that would not change the fact that I still don't like itunes and ipods.

thanks for clarifying, I was under the impression that you were all fucking hostile.. and shit.

You fail even more. Winamp has had official support for the ipod built into it since winamp 5.0 and songbird supports it out of the box also. Both are free.

And just to clarify, this is the c0r. We are all hostile appearing. We just don't like ignorance.

well, it never worked for me... always crashed/froze. i tried it a few times then got fed up with it.

FFS people. Media Monkey Gold. Media Monkey Gold. Media Monkey Gold. Will do everything apart from vidoes but I couldn't care less. My iPod is for music and music only.

I love my 30G Zune! I downloaded episodes of the office so I can watch whenever I want. My ipod battery was definitely much better but it froze up a couple of times.

is it possible to jump directly to times with the Zen?

if not its not worth even looking at if you want to listen to livesets

i would personally buy an ipod just for that reason.

Exponential fast forward.

Well yesterday I did some digging, and found the Zen is a no go for me. I will get the iRiver E100 when I can afford it. It supports all the formats I use.

FLAC and OGG. I have downloaded stuff recently, and being a member on waffles, creates one hell of a problem. I hate transcoding too. So yeah.

dang. those are quite popular too. I mean, not like totally obscure.

Exactly. And FLAC has really gained popularity, especially in the geekier and audiophile circles. It is slowly becoming my preferred format. The thing that sucks, is my mobile unit (my in-dash unit) doesn't support it. Thank fucking god when I upgrade it, it will have a USB port!

I have a Zen. Buy the Ipod. My Zen spontaneously stopped working. It doesn't even turn on anymore.
