I'd agree with your top 3, you've got good taste in console RPG's.

I was never lured into any of the Half Life series, especially the original, and preferred Unreal Tournament as the FPS of that genre.

Resident Evil 4 would be my number 5 on the list. Not just one of the best RE games, but one of the best action/adventure games of all time.

NBA Hang Time (the actual sequel to Jam, I feel NBA Jam Tournament Edition was more like an expansion) on the N64 is one of my most treasured games. We STILL play it religiously to this day. What a great multiplayer game.

Also, I find it hilarious that my post on Page 1 features a Top 5 that is different from the Top 10 list I provided in the MGS4 thread. I guess the lists change in my head from day to day.

    2. Hitman: Silent Assassin, Contracts & Blood Money.
    3. Tomb Raider - all series. Love'em.
    4. Medal Of Honour - Allied Assault & Call Of Duty. The original masterpieces.
    5. Warcraft 2 - classic! Endless days & nights while being a teen.

milhouse played "bone storm", n00b

Impossible to compile a top5

Silent Hill 2, Silent Hill 1, Counterstrike: Source, Tomb Raider Legend, Quake 3, Quake 2, Race Driver: GRID, Metal Gear Solid 4, Resident Evil 4, Super Mario 64 and many others probably.

In no particular order

Elder Scrolls: Oblivion
-I've never felt more involved in an RPG. wasted countless hours trying to get all the side quests done

X Wing vs TIE Fighter
-Because it's so darn fun blowing up Star Destroyers

Street Fighter 2
-although some of the sequels are better, nothing like the original that gives you nostalgia

Civilization
-the entire series is so darn good. I think I've done 48 hrs of Civ 2 straight before

Europa Universalis 2
-just so darn detailed, yet simple enough for world domination

Honorable mention
Total War series
-Medieval 2 is my fav, but Rome has a special spot in my heart too

I can't limit it to just 5, so I'll list my favourite in each Genre.

RPG:

EARTHBOUND! I'm going to agree with anyone who says FF4, FF6 or Chrono Trigger are better games (FUCK FF7, overrated piece of shit 30 hour RPG... Kefka would fuck Sephiroth in his left ear right before he blew his nuts off). Anyway, back to Earthbound. You can buy your own house, it's set in current-time, it's fun, filled with jokes, the battles are fast and the scrolling HP is an amazing mechanic. If you haven't played this game, you're missing out on one of the most enjoyable RPG experiences in life.

Adventure:

Zelda: LttP! My favourite game ever. Ocarina of time is great because it's 3D, but a 3D upgrade to a game that already exists isn't enough to get top spot in my book, sorry. Also, where were all the monsters in OoT? It was BORING playing OoT after being used to killing things all over on SNES. LttP blends perfect game-length with tight controls, awesome dungeon-design and fun secrets that aren't too tough to figure out. Runner up? Landstalker for Genesis, try it sometime.

Beat-em-Up:

Ninja Turtles 4: Turtles in Time! Anyone who says otherwise is a liar. Throwing enemies at the screen = win, and it still contains one of the hardest bosses in gaming (the turtle with the spiky shell you can only damage from behind).

Platform:

I'm gonna go ahead and say Mario Galaxy! Mario 64 redefined (I would say 'defined') 3D platforming, but Mario Galaxy is just so much more fun for me. It's 3D without making the mistake the 3D Sonic games have made in giving us TOO much freedom. Mario 64 is an amazing game, but it feels like I'm exploring worlds in 3D, Mario Galaxy makes me feel like I'm playing a 2D platformer in 3D, and I love it.

Fighter:

Super Smash Bros. There's a case to be made for Melee, and there are so-called fighter 'purists' who think their games with super-duper button combos to unleash awesome moves are 'real', while SSB is 'fake'. But eff that! No other game in the genre requires you to use the stage, air combat, ground combat, projectile combat, a grab that WORKS to stop turtling, dodge-defense and block defense (and holy shit if you turn on items) the way that SSB does. For making us require more skill than knowing how to string together a half-circle on our controller, followed by a button, or simply holding back to block, SSB takes the fighter title for me.

FPS - Single Player:

Goldeneye! Sure, they've improved console controls for FPS games these days, but I haven't seen a game with the same quality that Goldeneye has. The missions are actually tough, the challenges to acquire cheats are tougher, the game is just a golden single-player experience (and the multiplayer is awesome too!)

FPS - Multiplayer:

Action Quake 2! Counterstrike before there WAS Counterstrike. Except 4 times the speed, and DOORS! We're talking you get shot, you bleed to death unless you bandage. Shot in the leg? You bleed to death AND limp around unless you bandage. Jump from a high place that causes damage but you don't die? Again, you limp until you bandage. Did I mention the speed? It ran on the Q2 engine, so there was obviously straffe-jumping and double-jumps. Weapons included such staples as the MP5, M4 Carbine, Sniper Rifle, Pistol (and dual), Throwing Knives (could also use as a slash), pump-action shotgun, and sawed-off double barrel. It also had a kick-mechanic that hasn't been mimicked in an FPS until COD4's knife mechanic. Your enemy too close to shoot? No problem, jump while facing him and if you're in contact with him, kick the pesky fuck right off the roof you're fighting on!

RTS:

Starcraft! Nuf' said?

Turn-based strategy:

Heroes of Might and Magic 4.

Simulation:

Sim City 2000. I still open this program up on my computer and create random cities from time to time. The more recent sequels are ok, but just don't do it for me for some reason.

I somehow missed Earthbound back in the day, but I just started playing it on the Wii. This really is a blast. It is full of jokes and I love how you're party members will get scared and try to appologise to whatever you're battling atm, lol. Good stuff for sure!! If your a gamer who likes RPG's you must play this game.

Yes! This game is the reason I'm a history major today. EU3 is a much deeper game, but the second is just the most fun; I lost hundreds and hundreds of hours playing and modding this game.

Also, Paradox is amazing for the fact that damn near every variable in the game is stored in an easy to edit text file. Modding that game is soooooo easy.

LOL, you get homesick at all yet? Oh man, they have to make a sequel for this one day and release it in North America. I'm getting tired of all these fantasy/sci fi rehashed RPGs, I want something current time, with the internet, and hockey sticks for weapons

For real! This one is a nice change from the 'same ole' formulaic fantasy/epic rpg's. I like how u save the game, as u have to call you're dad and tell him what u did, lol. I think I'll be homesick tonight, as I didn't get a chance to play last night
