Dont wanna say it, but looks like Russia needs some of that Turkey magic.

Russia is playing even worse than in the 4-1 game of the group stage. They just can't get the ball up there in the attack. It's plain weird how they have gone from absolutely fantastic football against the Netherlands, to this piss poor exhibition.

They are playing that lacklust football that they were playing when they were showing no confidence. Sucks. They could do so much better.

Okay, that's good - now Spain will lose with the same result from Germany and everything with this Euro2008 will be back to normal.

no let's not get confused. game plan was the same in the 1st half as the 2nd.

2nd half Russia got caught with a nice run through the middle of our defense by xavi. it's funny how one goal changes everything. then russia started to push for an equalizer and gave plenty of space at the back to get caught... twice.

does one grind out a 0-1 loss? no. i don't think we can blame them for that. as disheartening as 0-3 is i'm at least happy they kept on trying.

spain had 2 players on Arshavin at all times - it worked. centre backs drifted to help out with runs on the flank. sergio ramos had one of the best games i've seen by a defender in a long while.

good good game by spain - russia had no experience to respond to that situation.

1st half game plan = let's score all our goals through Sergio Ramos! Let's cross to no one!

2nd half game plan = let's wait for people to push forward before we cross! let's use other teammates besides ramos!

If anything, it was a good adjustment from Aragones.

were we watching the same game? granted he didn't make the assist pass but ramos was involved in the play of every goal. the ball would go through him for the decisive pass.

then he'd track back and tackle the shit out of zhirkov!

Posted by Zild on Jun-26-2008 20:58:

Love how Puyol slammed Arshavin after that no call on the penalty. Viva Espana!

that didn't happen much in the first half...he was having a go most of the time

Posted by Zild on Jun-26-2008 20:58:

It was pouring rain when he hit those shots so he was correct for testing the keeper.

I actually think it wasn't the spaniards who eliminated Arshavin. It was the public. Everyone expected him to play very well against Spain. That extra attention wasn't good for him. His passing was awful; While other players were running he was WALKING...

What a boring game

Posted by bananas on Jun-27-2008 11:40:

heheh, spain trashed'em again, they controlled the pace throughout the whole game, and fabregas was magical once again
