I'm curious how many people actually use a limiter or compressor on the main channel. I find no matter how low I set it - it ALWAYS is throwing off the sounds and taking the natural "bounce" from the db meter which I never liked.

I only use them on individual channels and notice its just a matter of stablizing the channel levels seperately rather than as a whole.

Each person has their own way of working - as long as the end result is excellent, it doesn't matter whether you work with a limiter on the master channel or not. I use one, but the mix has to be well balanced, with or without the limiter. If the balance is way out, a limiter will definitely do strange things. If the balance is correct, then you could in theory smash the #@$! out of it and it wouldn't affect the balance too drastically.

There are many individual decisions - same goes for eqs on the master channel. Some people rarely/never use them, some people often/always use them - if the end result is a beautiful song, it'll be hard to argue against it.
