Here let me enlighten you:

Tattoos have spiritual/religious significance in many, many cultures. To think of tattoos as a symbol of hoodlum or profligacy is sort of skewed and short-sighted.
Ya man, seriously. Don't let Tupac hear you say that.

I'd like to get a geeky math or science tattoo

Didn't you hear? He's friends with Brett Mough now.

How is that possible? Tupac is still alive, I saw him on the bus.

You don't have to sugarcoat. They know they all look the same.

Posted by Frenchie on Jul-14-2008 20:06:

Uh, no.

Posted by iammesol on Jul-14-2008 20:07:

In that case, did you get to review his rhymes too?

back on topic, no i wouldn't. 90% of the time it seems like it's an action that the person ends up regretting later on (once they've broken up with whoever it was they got tatt'ed)

I'm not talking about tribal cultures that use tattoos as rites of passage or spiritual symbols.

I'm talking about the idiots who get a yin-yang, random Chinese / Japanese character, girlfriend's name, sun, or other symbol inked on themselves for the sake of being trendy and "unique." In the context of America and Europe, these currently constitute the vast majority of tattoos, as far as I know.

In the context of Western culture, they generally were such a symbol until little comfortably bohemian turds started trying to pattern themselves after the lower social strata for the sake of being "cool."

I'm talking about European cultures here, no one else.

I disagree that it somehow jinx's the relationship, but the majority of people that get them are in unstable relationships to begin with, and therefore end up getting it just before they break up.

"Honey, to prove I love you I'll tattoo your name on my body"

When he comes home to show her... her stuff is cleared from their home.

Hmm that is true about them being in an unstable relationship. Whatever I just think it's fucking stupid. What do you get out of the tattoo? Nothing.

Getting your partner's name tattooed on you is no crazier than having a big ceremony to magically join yourselves together in the eyes of "God."

Both are tacky, and equally painful/expensive to remove.

The only thing that I think Steve-O has ever done that was truly hilarious was get "Your Name" tattooed on his ass.

I only see the marriage ceremony as a thing to please the women in our lives. I see no need for it honestly.
