Which books have you read?

What if I told you that belief in the theory doesn't matter to me. I don't care. I know for a fact that action against climate change is beneficial to the environment, and by extension, human beings. Would you like to dispute that somehow?

Posted by Clovis on Jul-16-2008 22:13:

Why I am wasting my time arguing with such stupidity, I have no idea.

Posted by adi_hanson on Jul-16-2008 22:15:

would be different if a wad of cash was waved in your face

Global warming = cash

Posted by RJT on Jul-16-2008 22:15:

No, it wouldn't.

Posted by UWM on Jul-16-2008 22:16:

Some people ...

Posted by adi_hanson on Jul-16-2008 22:16:

global warming is money

Instead of dropping these one-liners you love, EXPLAIN YOUR FUCKING POSITION.

Posted by adi_hanson on Jul-16-2008 22:23:

global warming is now a BUSINESS other than a theory
global warming is being milked by people
global warming is making people millions
global warming is making governments millions
global warming is giving grants to pointless studies
global warming is an ECONOMY (MONEY MONEY MONEY)
global warming is making people famous
global warming has backfired
global warming was a good idea to start with
global warming says that you will die , to SELL more papers
global warming is used to SELL products

Its being milked regardless of fact

so what was global cooling?

And who explained all this to you to make you believe it as fact? Because theres no way you collected these opinions based on your own research, unless you're mentally retarded and illiterate.

Well, not quite illiterate, but close.

this reply defo falls under clause 5

5) Shouts down, puts down, and insults anyone whose beliefs run contrary to their own, rather than having intelligent discourse. A zealot for their cause.

Posted by UWM on Jul-16-2008 22:31:

Clovis, stop wasting your time. Seriously.

You aren't doing anything to promote intelligent discourse. You are spouting off one liners with absolutely no content to back them up.

Your beliefs aren't being shot down because they're contrary to what anyone else believes, they're being shot down because they're about as convincing as creationism.

The key here is that you believe it for absolutely no good reason at all, so you can tell all of us to get lost, and continue to regurgitate whatever the phrase du jour you care to hammer is, but you're the only one who's buying your own bullshit.

Enjoy spending your life with your head in the sand. It's sad there are so many of you who are just lost causes.

you tell me personally how global warming is effecting you!!

Yeah... I saw this yesterday. Even setting aside some of the more questionable reasoning there, this doesn't really tell us anything.

We don't know why higher temperatures appear to correlate with minutely lower IQs, and if there is a relationship, we have no reason to think that it's linear or even that the relationship remains similar across a wider temperature spectrum (in fact, I personally doubt the highest IQs would be associated with the lowest possible temperatures.)

We don't know whether it affects all individuals, or only some subset of individuals, nor whether the mechanism by which it might affect IQ is manipulable.

And frankly, even if we take the information at face value and just assume that IQ drops linearly, universally, and unavoidably with increasing temperature, we're looking here at a variance of about 1.5 points on the IQ scale over a temperature variance of about 32 degrees. Even in the worst-case global warming scenario, we'd be hard pressed to lose a single point off the average IQ due to this effect. Of course, in that case the net effect on mean IQ would probably be positive, since such extreme global warming would cause much greater mortality amongst traditionally low-IQ groups. So bring 'er on, I say.

They didn't do it because of that. As mentioned previously, you are making unsubstantiated claims, no matter what side of the fence you are on. They are asking you to substantiate your view and you do not.

Also, going green does help you. How? It lowers costs for things like heating, cooling, better building materials that are biodegradable that keep the air you breathe clean, your shit out of your house and into a treatment plant, drinking water, etc just to name a few.

While I have my views, you, as also mentioned previously, are one thick individual.
