These weren't user-induced crashes, they were just 'crash for no apparent reason' crashes. |

We were a pretty tight staff so I knew pretty much everything that got installed on them. Strangely though, some of them never crashed and others often did. I didn't really get the opportunity to investigate but I have a hunch some of the macbook crashes were heat related.

Funny story about that (and I'm pretty sure I must've posted it here before); Our cash register at that store was an imac and we sometimes used it to demonstrate certain applications to clients. We had XP running simultaneousely and when the clients weren't looking, we'd hotkey back into XP because our register program - a very basic database sort of app - would constantly crash on the mac OS.

One of the key things to Apples appearance to have more stability is they support 1 set of hardware for each machine. There are no changes nor variations that aren't supported natively. So this leads to less support calls for "driver" issues. |

If you were to put Apple in the same position as Microsoft, I am 100% positive they would go through A LOT of the same problems that Microsoft does with Windows. Apple doesn't have to deal with THOUSANDS of different configurations, 5 different bios manufacturers, 3 different I/O manufacturers, 10 different chipsets active at the same moment, 20 different video card manufacturers (although there are only 2 actual chip providers), 2 different CPUs, 100 different cd-type media drive manufacturers, 100 different LCD brands, etc. So much of this "Mac is more stable than PC" bullshit is propagated by the fanbois and Apple themselves. Please give me 1 REAL reason to get a Mac over a PC. I want an MBP as I have told you, but lately I have seen some of the new laptops and I am being steered away yet again. I still can't justify the $1000 premium to get it. I will take a shorter shittyer warranty, as I am a nerd anyways, to save $1000. That could buy me a lot of other stuff over and above the MBP. |
! Apple has its fair share of problem's. I had to do a mod to my laptop to fix it from a faulty chip(known problem with the video chip solider points on the system board. The laptop was died for a year untill I found an online guide to fix it and apple will not extand the warrenty for this known problem.

I use Apple simply because they come bundled with really nice audio cards inside and there's really excellent audio software which runs exceptionally on Apple computers. That's not to say they don't run competently on pc's, but I wanted and could afford the industry-standard-esque macbook and I went for it.

Jake has a similar problem with his Mac. A faulty temp sensor that forces shutdown and no control over it.| quote: |

How much damage will you do if you make a MacOS virus over a Windows NT based (this is Windows NT, 2k, XP and Vista) virus? Very little. The number of machines out there is still quite small. The sales numbers are quite misleading, as a majority of new Apple purchases are people that are current owners of Apple products. Considering all this, why would you, as a virus writer trying to cause as much damage as possible, write a virus for a Mac? You wouldn't. You want to cause billions worth of work? Write worms like Sasser, not one that doubles in size ever few months because there are 5 people in the world running that system. |

mac first timer
guys i made my decision. im taking the macbook.
thanks for all your advice.
The other thing I hate about apple is that they do ordinary things that other platforms have been doing for years and market them as revolutionary.
i.e Time Machine being a simple "synchronise" function like Microsoft's "briefcase" circa 1995, podcasts simply being serial mp3s that download using a scheduler, or iPods, when mp3 players had already been around for years.
