The thought of people hating to eat alone never crossed my mind until this thread

I love eating alone, especially sitting down at restaurants and cafes.

Room service is the best. When I'm traveling for reasons lacking excitement, it is one of my favorite pastimes. If I had unlimited wealth, I would never eat a meal not delivered to a hotel room I was occupying.

Posted by nefardec on Jul-28-2008 04:11:

haha i would be lying if i said i didn't enjoy room service every once in a while, but what i love is exploring when i'm traveling and finding the memorable, tasty, cheap holes

people usually look at me anyways because i'm 6'5", so when i am traveling in mexico for instance i expect to be looked at

Posted by shaw on Jul-28-2008 04:15:

when I was in high school, I used to go off to tournaments by myself, so I guess that leaves some sort of 'teenage freedom' association with room service & sportscenter. [I know that sounds ridiculous.]

Say what?

ROOM SERVICE IS AWESOME, OK?!?!?!?!?!

In Monterrey, I actually ditched room service. Gave the waiter 5 bucks and asked him to get me real mexican food. which was outside of the hotel -

he brought alot of REAL mexican food

Wasn't talking to you.

Exactly.

Eating alone lets you enjoy your food better than when someone is constantly gabbing and ruining your zen moment with that perfect piece of food.

why is delivery so much of a disappointment compared to room service?

Because the delivery boy doesn't come dressed in a suit (sans jacket), and it doesn't come on a tray all laid out ready for you to eat. Room service also comes on real dishware + utensils.

Posted by shaw on Jul-28-2008 04:28:

actually, I just remembered something. the one thing I LOATHE about room service is the tip policy. all hotels add a mandatory 15-20% tip, so whatever you put on the receipt goes on top of that. pisses me off. I forget and fall for it every time.

it's also not overpriced. and honestly, I get some bizarre kick out of overpaying for stuff. I love paying $13 for a club sandwich.

Room service is the same price as a lot of restaurants here.

Posted by shaw on Jul-28-2008 04:37:

either the restaurants are overpriced or they need to rachet up the extortion on the room service.

Meh/meh. The nice classy places are preiced more because they usually use better cuts of meat and finer ingrediets ( or so we are made to believe). You're too stuck on room service. Need to get out more. OH I SAID IT.
