| Originally posted by richg101 its fact. go to any large club that caters for the average joe. they still class the 'dance section' as 'dance + trance'. drum and bass got big, but not as big in the charts as what trance was. same goes for garage, electro, house since 99. the year of trance overshadows every other year since (in terms of chart prominance over a given year). tiesto helped towards the growth of trance to its peak in 99 and is now a successful outcome from the boom. |

lol at this thread.
pretty much because he remixed Sarah McLachlan with a big super saw
Well if anyone is actually interested in the "self-branding" ideas, among many other cool things you should read "No Logo" by Naomi Klein. Great book.

Wide variety of music, vinyl records, real mixing, and still the same "magik" feel... actually even picking through some older stuff and dropping those occassionally too. Those were real parties. Since the TIC format arrived its been downhill. Arguably this is due to the popularity. Going to a Tiesto show these days is like spending a weeks work experience at kindergarten. If it wasnt for the sloppy attitude of the mass public who now turn up to see him, it would be much easier to give him further credit beyond '04. Unfortunately that just isnt the case. In the past 2 months alone, 3 club gigs have been stopped by the local police for overcrowding. |

| Originally posted by Krypton Anyone wonder how an average DJ could get to such a superstar status? My answer is the man behind the name has created, or had created for him, a brand, Tiesto that has had mass market appeal to mostly European dance scenes. His mixing is nothing special, but yet, the guy is a super star. It's all about how a DJ brands himself, promotes himself, how well the record label manages the brand. Tiesto is the Wal-Mart of DJ's! |
I've still yet to see Tiesto perform - and really, the guy is undoubtedly top 3 of who I want to see do a live set. After Oakie, Tiesto is what got me into trance, so in a way I'd like to pay my respects to him for that.
CUZ A RECORD SOUNDS BETTR WHEN DJ TIESTO (WORLDS BEST) PLAYS IT!!! AMIRITE??!?!?/
Dude, his events are still amazing. The music, the effects, the atmosphere, the track selection, even his mixing has improved. Definitely someone you should make an effort to see.
Are we still in TA ?

As much as the music he spinz at big clob may not be ideal, he looks like his shows would be a really fun thing to see. I think next time he's in melbourne I'll probably see him.

yeah i have always wondered why tiesto is SO huge, his events always sell out, maybe it's the two dots thing over the e in his name. i once downloaded a lot of his sets but only ever listened to like 2 of them. i've never seen him live but the people i know who have say it's awesome and i he definitely pulls a lot of shows. i think he is going to be at the Borgata in AC this weekend
that being said, i think his mix album Summer Breeze from like spring '05(?) was just out of control amazingly sweet. one of the later tracks is this mix of delerium's silence. this song is a staple of the gym mp3s. it's one of those CDs you can put in and listen all the way through, without wanting to skip tracks, which are kind of a rarity.

That's an interesting question. I think alot of it has to do with several factors...Tiesto is a pretty "normal" type of guy, he can easily play the superstar figure and still seem not like a complete cocky-ass ego monger...in some way he can do this, still pull off the "cuteness" aspect for the girls. That's a big part. He is a staple in Holland, and all the Tiesto mega concerts have propelled him into something of an icon representing trance.
As far as the skill-factor, the ability to keep re-inventing his sound, throwing down fresh vinyl and amazing audiences with killer tracks, killer mixing skills, and the like....I don't think Tiesto is really that DJ. He is a sensation, but not a pioneer or a revolutionary, basically I am saying, people love him, and will go to see him, and pack venues just to get a glimpse, but overall I think he's an extremely weak DJ, sound engineer, and producer. He's not very original and gets lots of outside help when making tracks. I mean hey...I'm not trying to diss Tiesto, if he's good at anything, he's a good showman, and he's proven that.
