hey man, i like sauce too
but adding stuff without trying it, when its cooked solely for that person, i still think thats rude. like if you produced a bangin track, and was going to show it to someone and that person insisted on putting a drum loop they liked behind it, before ever hearing it, and insisting it would be better that way. possible its true, but just stupid to do so without trying it without first

basically what we've learned here is that there are no good analogies for this situation. lolfux

If you serve him a fine meal, he can put what he wants.

If you serve him fine cuisine, he's a rude fuck for asking to put anything on it (except S&P like you said) without tasting it.

I'd be insulted too. When I cook for guests, freshness, preparation, seasoning, smell and presentation along with taste are things are things I take pride in.

Posted by Slylee on Sep-24-2008 01:32:

damn now he's catching up in the "cons" list of his pro/con list i made in microsoft word.

no i would be kinda annoyed. if one decides to add stuff after tasting it then so be it but do it in a nice way like "this is so great i bet it would taste awesome with ________." i never modify stuff people make for me even if i don't want to eat it because it's rude. i'm picky and don't eat a lot of things just cause but i'll do it if someone makes it for me.

Posted by Echo of Silence on Sep-24-2008 01:32:

I love to cook, I think it's one of my passions, so yah, I think I would be kind of pissy if someone wants to put bbq or tomato sauce on the food BEFORE tasting it. "Oh, so you're just assuming you'll NEED something extra to enjoy it?" Ha. "Gimme back my food and go buy the dollar ninety nine special at McDonalds or something." rawr

all i'm saying is at least fucking try it first before you say something like that.

the only person who agrees with me on this is my dad and he's really into cooking too.

and i bet all those people on top chef would agree too

I agree that substitutions may be understood as insulting to some chef/restaurateurs and I understand why. It is one thing to change something because of allergies or other type of intolerance, and in that case, a 'light' substitution may be acceptable to adapt to the circumstances. On the other hand, if the person just does it because of likes and dislikes then I think it is just bad.

Posted by lcid on Sep-24-2008 01:34:

so does this make me a bitch for asking for a fan whenever i stay at someone's house? i mean i am so used to sleeping with a fan that it's hard to do without it... but am i being rude by not giving the ambiance of their house a chance?

Posted by elFreak on Sep-24-2008 01:35:

lol.

ton pauvre chum. si tu n'arrete pas de faire ta folle il va te laisser pour une femme qui aime les big macs.

Jamie, i love to cook but forcing people to eat things only the way you want them to is a tad shallow.
