I love the scene....
Yes I LOVE the music and I LOVE being a DJ, but for me it really is the people. Sure, there are some idiots out there and lots of people come and go........but I've made some amazing friends in Toronto's scene.
I just really focus on the positive and that really makes the difference. If you let the negative creep in than it will turn you negative. It can be tough, some people really are fake and just try to start drama with everything but you have to ignore those types.
There are a lot of really amazing passionate people in T.O.s scene. Thats what really makes me want to go out night after night...
FYI....There is a BIG outdoor event being planned for next summer with some big names...
I am quite tired of the scene myself. I have had a great summer, I went to many parties and some of the best boat cruises, but to be honest it's all the same over and over. There is absolutely no change and the crowd is getting worse and worse.
I still love my music, but I only come out once or twice a month now for events that I truly care about, and I noticed that I enjoy them way better than hitting up every single party on a weekend.
Also, the scene has way too much drama and fake people. I agree with the other Sasha on this one 100%. It's like high school, I swear.
I used to be ignorant to certain rooms, clubs and crowds...give it a shot in the right mind state, go for yourself...even better surround your self with an amazing group of people...I like to call these pockets...
become a leader, stay positive and the people and environment will follow...
if you still feel not at home, then you are probably right about being sick of a certain venue etc..
ignoring certain people, DO make them go away, i hate frauds, they love attention, the less you give, the more tempting it is for them to fuck off or in the end they just look retarded.
I was a guv reg, religiously driving every weekend or all weekend for big events, an hour outside the city, its changed ALOT, i most ways for the worst, but still i refer back to finding or creating your pocket.
Now that i've been living downtown for a while, i do try different places and started to really dig techno, the music usually is pretty solid..but the crowd...the crowd fucking DANCES!Hi 5's, Smiles, Friendly faces etc...like the good old days
CoR Version: Just Geeve, be yourself, have a goodtime
i pretty much am over clubbing. i just go out to see friends.

However, yet I find that I don't feel the same way about outdoor parties... Weird... How many of you feel the same way of the club scene, but still in love with the music. What kind of things turn you off from the club scene? |

bored + geeving
yea I dont go out anywhere near as much as I used too.
I can't say that I miss it either. Why? Mostly because (imo)
(1) The crowds here are shit.
(2) It feels like it's the same shitty djs playing the same shitty music playing the same shitty clubs.
I'd rather not waste my time here and just fuck off to somewhere that I REALLY like a couple of times a year.

It is not the scene as much as what you end up missing because you go out every weekend. Waking up at 3:00pm on Saturday or Sunday feeling destroyed for being up damn near 24hrs is brutal. The whole next day after partying is pretty much a waste because no way are you going to do anything. Then there is the fact that the only thing keeping me up is sheer will and caffeine. At 27 that youthful energy is quickly leaving me especially during those times when you are working 50hr work weeks plus doing everything else. Lastly there are the people who go out to get wasted and think everyone is TiestoI hate those people.
I'm def MUCH more relaxed about the scene since 2006 when I first started partying regularly at Guv and such
allthough seems like for the next weeks I'll be partying regularly, since there are some interesting bookings out there, however I def do not get the same level of excitement when the night comes

meh. i'm pretty much over it. it takes sooo much for me to go out to a club anymore, i really just can't be arsed unless it's a dj i love or have been wanting to see for a while. i'm much more interested in parties that aren't at typical clubs....like the box of kittens nights (that i still haven't checked out) and that milk run thing i went to on labour day weekend. smaller things at non-traditional club venues with good music.
plus, in the past 2 or so years i've really gone back to my indie roots and frankly, i'm just SO MUCH more interested in that kind of music than "dance music". i just don't care anymore and i have different priorities at this point in my life. i LIKE getting up before noon on the weekends and actually being functional, rather than sleeping forever cos i didn't get home until who knows when.
I can write bunch of negative things about Toronto's club culture but seems it is redundant.... I only go to clubs when a good DJ comes in, which I happen to be few times a year... I go by myself and try to enjoy the music while dancing my head off... just ignore retarded crowd, dickhead ass grabbers, and little paris hilton marionettes. It is always impossible to ask a woman to dance together, or just say "Hi"... All the women in the clubs are pushed to say "No" by c..suckers... I still can't get the point of dancing ass to dick with trance.... gimmme a break....this is not the music you can dance like that...
If the problem is with Trance music itself for you, you also have some sort of problem with your "intellectual music knowledge" or "music taste"... There are tons of free outside events in and around Toronto such musics as "African music, Salsa, Jazz, Reggae which I am also, Cherry Beach events were awesome, Latin music festivals, and many more... Toronto has wonderful Jazz musicians and Jazz culture though...
Everything around us is tend to change so are we... Since you were from Turkey, did you try to listen Baba Zula and Mercan Dede in past months...???? Why not...
Basically, Toronto scene sucks with clubs...

So dan, when is the next house party
You guys drive from out of town? I can't even get my ass in gear to get on a streetcar.
Isn't driving home a concern or do you stay over?
