it just gets better every year for me, that's all i can really say. i missed out on a lot of people i wanted to see, djs i wanted to hear, places i wanted to be, but i've come to terms with the fact that that happens every year and there's really no point in focusing on anything other than soaking up the moment to its fullest. especially with that phenomenal weather. now that attendance has begun to swell under the lovefest banner, it will just get more insane from here on out...

+1
I have now come to the point to understand I will get lost on seeing what I want to see. Every year I say I am going to see this float and that, only to get lost in one place
didn't get to see much because it was SOOOO damn crowded. walking from Spundae float to the Kontrol float took 25mins at one point
oh well though, seeing Lee in a dress and wig was enough for me. He fucking killed it with a nasty set of tech house bombs. Wish he would have played longer though...

fun times

I went to the preparty at ruby skye to see kaskade. trevor simpson opened up and played a good set(i like 92.7 and bpm- XM81 so thats what im basing "good set") kaskade played songs from his albums which is to be expected(i like his music) so i thought it was a GREAT time. unfortunately my gf got sick and got lost in the restroom, so i tried to get in touch with billy(72hrpartyanimal) but he was up on stage and i wouldnt have been able to go up. wound up going home around 230 once my gf called me to tell me she was in the room. i tried to drag her back out, but she wasnt up to it.

FYI-to floats next year. Take a look at Local Loves float and copy PLEASE, putting the djs name in a huge banner right in front of your float is a huge plus. Would have been really nice to see each float have that.

I didn't go and only saw pics, but man does it help. I really liked seeing that in there. There are way to many DJs that I am sure many people have never heard of, seen, etc and do not know their name as a result of this.

i'm always puzzled when people say they have such a hard time getting through the crowd... if you gotta kind of just dance and skip and hop through the crowd you get through pretty well. really.

Some people are more "polite" and wait too much for others to go through.

Ismael said to me "Blurr for a big guy you sure do move quick"

I think I made it from the local love float to the spundae float in about 3 minutes.

i totally understand, and i'm normally the polite one in these kinds of situations... but otherwise it totally feels like you're standing behind one of these...

SF Gate Article about Love Fest

Loud, lively LoveFest lets S.F. get groove on
Verne Kopytoff, Chronicle Staff Writer

Sunday, October 5, 2008

Dancing fanatics wearing boas, fluorescent wigs and tutus took over downtown San Francisco on Saturday for a parade celebrating love amid the uncertainty of war, financial meltdown and impending presidential elections.

San Francisco LoveFest, an annual Mardi Gras for techno music, drew tens of thousands of spectators who bopped to the blaring beats coming from the floats - semi trucks stacked with speakers and festooned with gyrating women in bikinis.

"Everyone has come together to be themselves and forget about their problems," said Cassie Mandeville, a restaurant hostess and college student from Sacramento who dressed as a sort of pink-haired Pippi Longstocking.

The event featured 28 floats, essentially mobile dance clubs that inched up Market Street. Stores along the route emptied out as shoppers emerged to gawk at the spectacle of so much love.

A school bus, turbocharged with orange, blue and pink paint, led the procession, and prompted some in the crowd to yell out, "The Love Bus is coming, the Love Bus is coming!" as if it were Santa's sleigh. A woman carrying a sign advertising "free hugs" marched just in front, though no one seemed interested in taking her up on her offer, instead preferring to jump up and down.

The volume was so loud at times that it vibrated the rib cages of anyone standing nearby. People talking on cell phones ran for cover.

Linda Reilly, who was on a shopping trip from Hayward with her 16-year-old daughter, had no idea the parade was to take place until it started. She watched from the sidewalk and snapped photos, bemused by the proliferation of bare bellies, short shorts and low tops, and declared, "It's what this city is known for - this outlandishness."

Reilly, who was dressed for Macy's, not clubbing, added: "I'm happy to see them so happy. But they seem oblivious to the economy, the wars, the banks."

Later, the outside world did make a brief appearance, even if it did seem like a mirage. A surplus Army truck rolled down the street carrying women in camouflage jackets grooving to music next to a sign above the cab saying "Martial law is coming soon."

LoveFest got its start in San Francisco in 2004 as an offshoot of the Berlin Love Parade, a similarly whimsical celebration that is well-known in Europe. Now independent of Berlin and operated as a nonprofit, the San Francisco event aims to raise money through corporate sponsorships and donations to fund music scholarships for children.

Despite the outward frivolity, Syd Gris, a LoveFest board member, said LoveFest's mission is "to promote peace, tolerance, respect and even love through the platform of dance music." Although spectators may have temporarily forgotten about the nation's ills, he said the organizers are very conscious of them and see the gathering as a way to remind young people that they need to be engaged.

The parade concluded at the San Francisco Civic Center Plaza, where the floats parked and pumped up the volume for the legion of dancers wearing fairy wings, go-go boots and false eyelashes of all colors of the rainbow.

If it is just 2-3 people then it is fine, but when you get 100k+ people in the same area, you must throw a good portion of that politeness out the window.

Atleast you got to meet Blur (met him once when Club Glo was still open in Fresno, CA). I didn't even make it to the TA meet up at all. Didn't get to meet anyone. By the time I got to the parade, it was almost time for the afterparty already.

During the last couple of minutes of Armin's set on the float, some dude came and asked me if it was Armin and if he played "Going Wrong" yet. I just gave him that look: "You gotta be shi**in me..." I thought it was pretty funny....
