which is one of the reasons why i don't date fobs.

though the good ones know how to treat their man like a prince (and can cook unlike so many girls nowadays) lol

And on the flip side... if you have trust issues (not you Jeff), then don't date till you are ready. Go see a therapist.

Maybe I do have trust issues okay!! Way to be so insensitive

well maybe you should stop trying to steal ALL of their boyfriends!

Posted by elFreak on Oct-21-2008 19:11:

there is one exception to the rule in SK yohan...and that would be the girl from the rich family that wants a non korean man due to it being somewhat of a status symbol...

anyway, different thread completely...although i must say having the privilege to experience that culture first hand (as a non korean) certainly gave me new angles and insight on life.

And the award for the most oversimplified view of relationships GOES TO

I guess my suggestion is pretty summed up to what people have already posted. But I guess it's really up to your tolerance to compromise with her and vice versa. Otherwise, you're wasting each other's time.

edit: It doesn't seem like that you guys haven't been dating that long so maybe "test the waters." Suggest to her you guys go to an EDM event in return you will go to an event she's into. If that's a disaster, then move on.

I tried this as well, and well, the bf didn't want to go to an EDM event. I guess it depends on the person, but I was tolerant to respect his decision. If you're not as tolerant as me, and this happens, then I guess she's not the one for you.

LOLPLUR

+1....especially when the "scene" that everyone thinks of doesn't even really exist anymore.

Posted by CAKE on Oct-21-2008 19:25:

LoL whats funny i was trying to find someone not in the scene, and i didn't know my new g.f liked edm till i got in her car and i was like who's this ?? she's like ritchie hatwin and i replied that so hot !!! LOL

Posted by lopi on Oct-21-2008 19:27:

Sure, if they can tolerate EDM, and also tolerate my intolerance of what ever garbage they're listening to...

Honestly though, I don't mind rock and alternative, it's good to mix it up every once in a while. Hiphop/R&B/top 40s make me want to gauge my eyes out with a rusty fork. So it really depends on what the different music is.

Posted by ChemEnhanced on Oct-21-2008 19:30:

The simple answer to all of this is just date someone that is deaf.

and mute? so that you don't have to hear her nag?

While not a deal-breaker, music is pretty important - and it would play some factor in dating someone if I end up single again.

Going to clubs, parties and festivals are pretty big ticket items on the "things I currently like to do" - and ideally, since I have such a great time at this things, and especially more special events like Mutek, Eclipse, Harvest, etc which become some of the highlights of my year - being able to share these things with the person I love is a really big bonus.

I'd really hate to be "Well hun, see you in 5 days - I'm off to Mutek" because they didn't want to come Mutek with me and I'm off venturing alone or with other friends. I'd still do it - but I'd prefer to include my partner in things like that.

Or, if they wanted me to NOT go to Mutek because they were not into it, and tried to pull some piss-ass power play to stop me from going - that'd piss me off and WOULD be a deal breaker. While I can live with them not being that into it but still being fine with me going, having them stopping me from going is not something I'd put up with.

But thankfully, my current BF has a a love for techno/edm/minimal music. Hell, our first real conversation was "OMG, you like minimal too?" then geeking out about various record labels / producers / DJs that we like (Finding other gay men into the same kind of music as me in Toronto seems to be a rather difficult thing to do).

and hell, my ex-BF was the one that sort of started me on the path of getting into this music (was a psytrance head prior - so I've lucked out in getting BFs that have some pretty top-notch taste in music, heh)

Personally, I couldn't. But when it comes to EDM, I don't have to be dating someone who loves the exact same taste in EDM as me. My bf and I have fairly different tastes in EDM, yet agree on some styles. We both come from punk music backgrounds too, which is interesting. But he's definitely not a fan of my NKOTB obsession.

as for my view, i'd say they would have to be able to tolerate me blasting tunes a few hours a day. so in other words, they must appreciate it but don't necessarily have to love it as much as me. however i am open to all genres (well except country and the death metal kinda stuff) so im pretty easy to get along with musically speaking.

It can be done.

Trust is key. The EDM scene is a completely different beast compared scenes in many respects.

I am not, and I personally would not want to be with someone who is directly in the EDM scene. It would be too much for me to handle. A balance needs to be set and followed through with. I feel that a balance between this lifestyle and a normal lifestyle (I use normal loosely because everyone has their own definition) is needed. Besides engulfing myself with the tunes when I go out, I also try to work on, and have maintained lasting relationships which I bring out of the scene and into my personal life as well. For myself this is important to me because knowing who I am with, spending those late nights away from home have helped build that trust that is needed.

I get times alone with my friends, she with hers. And the times we spend together are strictly times together without the scene creeping in.

i mix at high volume and she does not mind...i achieved this by starting to buy her a few vinyls of the stuff she does like. She does not want to learn to mix, but she has taken a big interest in records which is pretty cool. Record shopping as a couple is fun as hell, even if we spend a lot of time making fun of each others music.

Posted by Knox on Oct-21-2008 20:16:

cont

And acceptance. I accept when she wants quiet, she accepts when I want loud (and helping me get my decks 3 years ago was a sign of acceptance ). My acceptance in return to her is keeping the music in moderation when she wants quiet.

Posted by VERTiG0 on Oct-21-2008 20:19:

If she likes rock and such, sure. If she likes hip-hop/R&B exclusively, total no-go.

Posted by Adamo on Oct-21-2008 20:24:

I once took out a girl on a date and things were going well until we got back in the car to drive her home. I was playing a house music mix CD and after 2 minutes she turned the radio off. I said to her "oh u want me to turn it down? okay"...i turn it back on at a lighter volume...then she replies " no man turn it off i can't listen to that shit"...My reaction was "oh yeah...whats better..." then she turns on the radio and starts blasting raggaeton for fucks sake. I laughed and put on back the house music and said something along the lines of "my car, my music,"...this started a 10 minute war of her turning the music off...and me turning it back on. Dropped her off home never spoke to that bitch again...

I can deal with someone who has different tastes but if you wont let me enjoy what I like then you can fuck right the hell off.

Posted by elFreak on Oct-21-2008 20:30:

you still should have had sex with her first.

Posted by Adamo on Oct-21-2008 20:31:
