personally this track is really fun and gives a happy feeling.. I dont see how it can be boring compared to the many boring minimal beats I hear over and over again for the past year. this and the recent dousk album ftw.

The only thing that really, really sucks about how much of a "gimmick" tune this might be is that hundreds of kids who don't have a clue are going to beat it into the dirt alongside bog-standard Dubfire infused "techno" sets or the "prog du jour".

In a lot of ways I feel like I've been waiting a long time for a record like this, but I don't even want to play it because I know it's just going to get raped by untold numbers of terrible jocks.

Posted by nefardec on Dec-16-2008 18:47:

this track is too elaborate to be a gimmick. i suppose you guys just don't appreciate swing music.

that said, i would never play this in a club, but trust me it works great when you're playing a lot of jazz infused stuff in a set in the basement of a house party. i started off with sonar lodge, miles davis, nina simone, and even some steve reich. this track was perfect.

Nah, I understand just fine, which is why I say it's a track I feel I've been waiting a long, long time for - it's the rest of the world of dance music I'm concerned about.

Right place at the right time.

Good Djs will use it well, shit DJs won't. Same old story.

Posted by jupiterone on Dec-17-2008 15:42:

playing this out at a burned down warehouse here next weekend, gonna be around 100 people, which owns. small gathering of friends > *

wish i could find pictures of the inside, but it's awesome, graffiti all over the place.

you can sorta make out what i mean. the atmosphere inside the place owns

definately gonna play some charlie parker, miles davis, blue mitchell to start, awesome thing is it's a lot of a blues, jazz and classic rock set of folks

a friends band wants to do jazz improv on some of the instrumental stuff i'd say i would play, can't wait, will record, will share

ha ok rob. oh noez! i don't agree with everyone else!!

and as to adam saying "i suppose you guys don't appreciate swing music" that's a crock of shit, at least in my case; anyone who knows me knows i'm a huge fan of swing/jazz. the track just sucks, imo, not just because of the gimmick value. not saying it's badly produced, or der dritte raum sucks, etc. i just don't like it.

You certainly play that card about as often as AIDS kills someone in Africa.

Hence the predictability of it all. You're our own little unique rebel - go on with your bad self.

I wish I could find a video of him saying it online - because the best part of it all is the delivery.

Probably my favorite quote from HST.

...wow.

i don't know why you're pms'ing over someone else's thoughts on a discussion forum. feeling a bit stressed? that essay giving you a hard time perhaps?? it's an opinion, deal with it.

easily upset guy is easily upset. that's how that meme works, right?

Breathe, man. What's the big deal? Who cares?

Anywho...

While I do agree that the track is gimmicky yet in a fantastic way, I have a hunch that it's not going to see that much playtime by bigger DJs. I haven't seen it from anyone yet or heard it from any locals here who tend to gravitate towards stuff like this, so I think that this will remain a little gem.

Unless, of course, it's already happening and I'm just under a rock.

As much as I would love to get my hands on a digital copy, I'd rather it stay on vinyl as that's one of the things that I think is helping to keep this from getting beat to death.
