I have been following this on whirlpool for a while and simply cant believe it. It has been planned for quiet a while and I am pretty sure it is in affect in some places as a trial but I don't think that many people know about it.
Any half witted computer user would know it takes a matter of seconds to find a way around this (proxy or tunnel).
I guess its time I also started writing some letters to some ministers whilst urging others to do the same.
EDIT: Not that this is completely relevant but its funny how once Rudd won the election he not only deleted his face book but he banned all his staff from using it (yes including outside of the office)
And the whole national broadband network plan is full of fail, see here.

I suppose also while some of the tarrifs on our exports to them are removed (while in return theirs WERE NOT? there's another wtf. Shouldn't this be helping both parties, not everything ONE WAY? ok, so magically to a degree it is a free trade agreement, but for the US only), would have helped when it comes to this. but at the same time, there's more red tape on exporting to them now too, which would have caused reductions. (edit: shouldn't a trade agreement promote trade and REDUCE red tape????) edit: and what kind of free trade agreement is mostly not related to trade? sounds like they're trying to pass off a bunch of other shit, but hide it under a good name 'oooo free trade... what's wrong with that? it must be a good thing!' gum nuts. see, i tried to avoid saying anything, because you're better off doing your own research and coming up to your own decision then taking snippets from different people. i'll leave it at that, because it can go back and forth all day. |

I think that's 12mb for everyone. While that is good, it's not good enough. By the time that's implemented, it will be obsolete. I don't think it's very upgradeable either which should be a red flag by itself.
ah, makes sense.
Well, I blame this article for my misconception.

...
not quite
look at the speeds *available* to everyone atm, yet there's still 256k plans and what not rubbish
add in our ridiculous upload speed caps and download limits
and add to that the potential monopoly, which telstra wants to eliminate other companies dslams
and added cost of this new network
...
basically we'll be paying more for a slower internet service since they'll just cap it, and add even more download limits.
why the fuck dont they just put everyone onto the adsl2+ dslams (telstra had them in their exchanges for YEARS, literally before they enabled them and even then initially only enabled them when a competitor was in the exchange - why didn't they get punished for this??? EVERYONE could have had access to upto* 24mbit internet for YEARS yet they chose to not let us) and uncap it. there's half the broadband issue solved, but no, that doesn't work in australia.... need to be third world and rip us off.
see sig.
The anti-firewall facebook group had my support right up until I received this message from them

| YES Australia is now owned 99% by corporations, we do not have our public interest represented at all, if we do not wake up to this and see what is happening for what it is, we will not defeat it, We have watched our country being sold right under our noses for too long, all but a mere 1% is privatised now, when will we have enough? .................... or a real investigation of the US government's unquestionable cover up and involvement in 9/11. ......................... The fact of the matter is they don’t want you to find out about HAARP, Chemtrails, Project Bluebeam, Codex, |
sorry, just to point out further their complete lack of credibility
