I don't remember the first mp3 i downloaded... it was probably a happyhardcore or gabber track.

my system came with 200mp3's, so i had a mix bag of top-40 stuff.

Speaking of songs that deserve 'yeah, I know'...my first mp3s included Christina Aguilera - Genie in the bottle and I got this at a point in time when I had trouble remembering the artist of the song, it was some odd word like 'Aguilera'...seemed very unknown to me, and I first heard it at summer camp from a friend's single and thought it was vaguely cool...another first was the classic 'Uptown Girl' by Billy Joel (which I still think is an awesome song). It looks like we're trying to see people's first techno songs, which I didn't know anything about when I first started getting mp3s. So my first techno songs are kind of random and unrelated too, though. The very first one was Key to Paradise (english version) sung by Blumchen. First techno song I really heard and listened to though was Eyeopener by Brisk & Trixxy, played by my friend's brother in his room. Great great song! The other one though...ha...it came over instant messenger, my friend, who was also just getting into techno, showed it to me because he thought it was funny that techno music came with such silly-happy songs as this...

Worm Popper

1996 "Encore Une Fois"

about the time when the MP3 scene took off.

i remember downloading this on my blazing 14,400 bps connection.
the funny thing was that the pioneers of MP3 (Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft) were actually charging for their "WinPlay3" MP3 player.
if it wasn't registered, this cheap player would only play the first 20 seconds of any song.
anyways, this was around the same time i became a pirate searching for serials.

Not exactly an mp3 but I had a MIDI of Robert Miles' children that came with a solitare game I downloaded. That was the first music file on my comp I listened to.

I was amazed a couple of years later when I heard the actual version of 'children'. I never knew that Robert Miles did it...all the file was called was 'children.midi' but I loved it.
