lol @ Richardson. This is a pretty lame attempt to shift blame away from the incoming administration too. They should have done their own homework on Richardson once they heard about the investigation. In the end, they have the responsibility to make acceptable appointments for Cabinet positions. The wheels on the bus go "thump, thump, thump"!

Guilty until proven innocent if you're a democrat, eh?

that's how it works on both sides man. only the GOP has to deal with the media a lot more to compound things. I'm still waiting on that congressional hearing for Maxine Waters, Barney Frank, et al who said there was nothing wrong with Fannie/Freddie and no reason to fix what isn't broken. I won't be holding my breath though!

No change....another Clinton crony, Leon Panetta, named to head the CIA. Someone wake me up please. He has zero experience in intelligence and he's going to head up the CIA... and why, you ask? I guess because of his staunch stance against torture. Or is it so Obama has a solid "yes man" at the top of that food chain?

Oddly enough, in 1993 Panetta tried to force downsizing and budget cuts to the CIA's intelligence capabilities.... sweet! This is getting unbearable.

A CIA director who has denounced torture, advocated intelligence cuts, and backed greater congressional control of covert operations--that would be....different. This appointment certainly has the potential to spark opposition from inside and outside the agency. But if Panetta manages to make it to Langley without much fuss, that would indeed signal real change in Washington.

noted...not quite sure of the Communists at Mother Jones' reasoning.

Leon Panetta, as Bubba's Chief of Staff, was part and parcel of a renewed effort of extraordinary rendition beginning in 1995. >HERE< and >HERE<. it was a "staple of Clinton's tenure".

furthermore, Clinton's legal council made specifically clear in 1994 that, "The President has enhanced responsibility to resist unconstitutional provisions that encroach upon the constitutional powers of the Presidency.". >HERE< again i don't remember Panetta voicing his concerns publicly about that either.

LETS REMEMBER THAT BUBBA MAINTAINED THE AUTHORITY TO CONDUCT NATIONAL SECURITY SURVEILLANCE WITHOUT JUDICIAL APPROVAL DESPITE FISA!!!!!!!!!!

... and more importantly, today from the Chairwoman of the Senate Intelligence Committee:

quote:
I was not informed about the selection of Leon Panetta to be the CIA Director. I know nothing about this, other than what Ive read. My position has consistently been that I believe the Agency is best-served by having an intelligence professional in charge at this time.

what i'm hearing is that this pick by Obama is to protect him from the long knives within the CIA. something Bush failed to realize during the first term of his Presidency.

The more I read, the more I really like the Panetta pick.
