I'm actually looking forward to the new version

It may look "logical" to you but people are used to use back and forward buttons to navigate through browser history so they expect beatport to work like that. People shouldn't have to check whether a site is done in flash, javascript or whatever to guess if they can use theses buttons or not.

This is called consistency and I think it's a great improvement with all the other stuff they showed on the video that may look like small features at first but do a lot for the user experience.

I understand that, and when I first started using Beatport I did that too. I guess I was just referring to the people that have been using Beatport for years and still confuse the two. It's really not that hard

Also, I wouldn't mind having the ability to send someone a link to the artist/album/track directly, instead of just saying "beatport.com".

Something like http://www.beatport.com/#/labels/minus/ would be great. (And yes, this can also be done with Flash)

Would also love to know how to do this...

And is there a way to get a mini player going?

This already works for quite a long time, try http://www.beatport.com/artist/Paul+van+Dyk for example

i never use the back/forward buttons on the browser personally. i have buttons for back and forward on my mouse and i use them all the time (and have used for years), so i think this improvement will be brilliant. it'll make using beatport much more intuitive for me.

Yeah that's a good point, I'd occasionally do that out of habit when I had a desktop computer. The video didn't state whether or not they were going to keep the flash back/forward buttons, because I'm REALLY used to that and I can imagine myself forgetting how to go back some pages.

Anyhow, all the improvements seem nice.

One thing has been left out: cookie so that you don't have to login every time.

About time they increased sample quality.

Posted by sot on Jan-14-2009 19:29:

will they just release the new beatport ffs and stop hyping it to shreads

i mean come on now, this is just silly.

Yeah, this has always been a pain in the ass. My best guess is that it's to protect your credit card information

so you can then moan about all the bugs?

Posted by Sadface on Jan-15-2009 04:27:

I just watched the last few videos and I'm pretty excited. The "hold crate" is going to be awesome, and I like how they improved the "my beatport" section.

Posted by PEZ68 on Jan-18-2009 13:31:

It would be cool also if they could include a 'Buy Now' checkbox next to each item of the crate so you can choose which tracks you want to be included in your current purchase.

not really
imo, if they didn't do flash and used something more SEO friendly, they should be getting millions of hits from google.

That makes the wish list a bit redundant, no?

yeah that and the same with labels. stupid that you have a limit.

From what I hear they are still fixing bugs today. It's not like it's been ready for weeks and then someone gets into work today and flips the "Beatport 4.0" switch.

I think the reason they use flash is probably some kind of contractual obligation. Its more expensive for them to cut contract with the original firm that they paid to develop the site and rebuild in HTML so they are riding it out in the meantime.

I mean seriously, do you guys think that the owners of Beatport were able to build it into the download giant it is today while at the same time being so stupid as not to realize that their GUI fucking sucks?

Posted by jupiterone on Jan-21-2009 17:33:

i don't get the fuss with flash

beatport has been very user friendly for me
