Really, when I create an event it is to bring awareness of the party to people. That's what it is.

So many people these days depend on facebook to promote. It's not like it's an actual guide to how busy a night is going to be...there are too many variables...

There is a fine line between "raising awareness of the party" and full-on and annoying promotion. Too many promoters cross that line imo.

I just delete annoying promoters from my friend list. It's pretty easy to get information on an event simply by watching what your friends are attending.

the clubs need to stop throwing free drink tickets and free cover at the people that get their friends on the guest list..it's allowing people with no credibility to label themselves as promoters...dumbing down the profession so to speak..

It just occured to me that people probably say " Sorry, but I'm in New Zealand" or something like... that those people actually live in those countries, and they are pissed off they are getting these invites from people from around the world.

"Sorry, I can't go to your beach party on the Gold Coast, I'm in Canada"

Maybe these people are trying to give the hint to stop inviting them??

yes. it's the clubs that give people free drinks that causes facebook spam Actually Anas, it's the liquor companies that give the clubs free stuff....but really really, it's the government for not controling the liquor companies more.

So, is the government to blame for my facebook inbox having a daily aneurysm?

lol

I've already replied once, didn't help

I think his point was that the clubs pay these 'promoters' with free drinks and cover. Therefore, if they go around spamming everyone, they will be given free drinks and cover for doing so.

Posted by Owen M on Dec-18-2008 04:25:

^^^and MY point was, it's the governments fault.

(p.s. his point was pretty clear. I'm going to assume you missed the joke in MY point, that HIS point was a joke. Therefore, you are not very good at jokes...I'm off to catch the bus.)

+1

i've deleted a few TAs for this reason. nothing personal, i just don't like receiving endless emails about every single event that they are promoting

tip to the promoters reading this. no need to spam every single friend that you've collected. make a separate friends list and spam a subset of your friends.

I think promoters should make one facebook thing for the event and whoever signs up on it or plans to attend you can send all the info them only rather than everyone one their friends list and their friends list......Its fucking annoying guys,it needs to stop.Or else I will also start deleting TAs or those people who usually spam my inbox 24/7

did people complain this much when e-mail was invented and promoters were using e-mail?

...I'm seriously asking.

promoters only used it (and still do) if you actually sign up for their email list
and then you can easily ubsubscribe

If a promoter is sending you invites that you don't like you just have to click the option "no longer accept invites from this person" directly under the invite... (there was a thread made just to point this out a month ago)

It's actually more effective than just deleting that person as that person could still use a GROUP to send you an invite...

i wish that some people would have more tact sometimes regarding promoting etiquette on fB! there are some serial offenders out there in this city fo sho!

you can easily "unsubscribe" on facebook too.
I think people just like finding things to complain about.

what is ur definition of a promoter..?

90 percent of these people aren't promoters..

why can't we just rename them..guest list pushers?

I know most of the people that use facebook to email aren't promoters.
It's been said over and over. it's too easy to jump on facebizzle and start railing people with messages.

a proper promoter works the talent buying, venue booking, marketing plan, sound and visual set up, logistics, ticket sales & hooker selection.

Word of mouth is a key part of event marketing and promotons. Facebook makes it easy for peopple to...blah blah blah...I'm smashed...and going to bed.

Etiquette on facebook? You mean the people-who-add-you-and-then-don't-talk-to-you-ever-cause-they-want-to-make-their-friend's-list-larger-so-they-think-they're-better-than-others type etiquette on facebook?
